Gunsmithing How much shoulder do you need?

Re: How much shoulder do you need? Are you talking about setting it up like a Savage? The barrel was given to me so I am not set on using it. If setting it up like a Savage will work then I might give that a try. This is going to be my first chamber cut.

Gunsmithing How much shoulder do you need?

I have a trued action and a barrel to chamber. The barrel tenon is .075 smaller than the current barrel OD. That leaves me with .0375 for a shoulder against the recoil lug. Is this going to be enough or should I get a larger OD barrel? Thanks.

    Gunsmithing Truing Receiver

Re: Truing Receiver Yes, I used dykem on the threads and then I cut until the dykem was removed from the entire thread. After that I took a .001 pass to make sure I cut a full profile.

    Gunsmithing Truing Receiver

I have been reading and learning alot on this site. Thanks to what has been shared on this site I trued my first 700 receiver a few days ago. One question that I have not been able to find an answer to is; what is the major diameter of the barrel shank for the trued receiver. This is what I...
