1st round of large frame questions

    1. What barrel length is common for 308? I have seen a few 18", a 16" here and there, mostly 20", and a random 22". Just curious because for some reason I have it in my head 22" is optimal. 2. Is there a forend that has a similar mounting as the Geissele stuff? I have them on my small...

Action screw torque on bedded action

I did a hillbilly bed job on my Savage with JB Weld. I wasn't particularly impressed with it not bedded and figured I had nothing to lose. I removed a bit of the material around the receiver on the Boyd's pro varmint (actually it's the tacticool when I got it). I started by setting steel...

    Have you bedded your 22?

I've been tinkering with my 22. Wellllll..... that's an understatement. More like tearing it completely apart and doing as much as I can to increase accuracy. Started with a Savage MKII heavy barrel. Boyd's pro varminter stock. Upgraded to thicker mag plate. Pillars added. Skim bedded the...

    firearm storage question

Up until now, I have stored my ammo and firearms in a spare bedroom. My wife is pregnant with our first. That room is going to become his room. I have a Cabela's signature 35 on order. Unfortunaly, it is going into an unheated garage. I plan on using a electronic dehumidifing rod. Will...

Are all .277 projectiles created equal

I have a .270 win (please no comments. I know there are better rounds but it is what I have.) And I have been looking at different manufacturers' sites. Some .277s are listed as a .270 and some are 6.8. Will they only stabilize it that barrel because of the twist? Thanks in advance.

    What do you consider accurate?

I was reading the April 2012 Guns&Ammo. I was suprised by a photo on page 90 about a review of the Sako TRG M10. It shows an typical group by the author of 4 shots being .515 with a 5th pushing the group out to .866 @100yrds. In my mind, 1/2 MOA is acceptable and just shy of 1 MOA is a good...

    .308 in a long action????

I have also been watching auction sites for prices on my next purchase. Every once in a while I run arcoss a listing that is for a .308win in a long action. I wrote this off to a listing error or trying to get the most hits on a listing. While looking through a post on this site a few days...

    Ranges in Ohio

I have been shooting .22lr for a few years (1/4" @50 yd(informal benchrest)). I was thinking about pushing the limits with a .308 and seeing what the new game brings. My question is "Is there a range where a .308 can stretch its legs in the central Ohio area?" I just don't want to buy a rifle...

    Suppressors .40 ammo sugestions

I got a Sig P229 elite in Jan. Went to an indoor range a couple of times with CCI blazer (both brass and steel cased) great groups for the first time out-4" @ 21'. I went to an outdoor a few months later with Winchester white box and it was like a shotgun- 8-10" @20ish'. I don't think that...
