Does the action ever wear out?

I know of folks who have replaced their rifle's barrel several times but I have never heard any of these folks talking about needing to replace the action. Does the rifle's action ever wear out?

Rifle Scopes I need new low rings

I installed a scope on my rim fire rifle and, although the height of the rings works well, they are too wide for the picatinny rail and I can't push my scope forward enough. I am currently using Burris XTR Low 30mm rings which measure 0.25" from the base to the bottom of the ring (or 0.084" to...

    Full Length Sizing Dies

Are all Full Length Sizing Dies built equal or is there a brand and/or model of FL Sizing Die that is vastly superior to others? I have a boat-load of once-fired .223 brass (shot through a semi-auto) that needs to be brought back to spec so I can run it through a bolt gun.

Range Report Effective Range of 6PPC

Re: Effective Range of 6PPC Interesting article! I would have never though that this round could make it out to 500 yards with any sort of accuracy but I see i was wrong to assume that. Thanks for the links!

Range Report Which Barometric Pressure figure should I use?

I am trying to calibrate a Kestrel unit and I just found out that there are two different Barometric Pressure figures that I can choose from. One is the Barometric Altimeter Setting and the other one is the Mean Sea Level...

Thinking about a Remington 597, Opinions?

Re: Thinking about a Remington 597, Opinions? I had a 597 for a while and, while a really fun plinker, it was not the most accurate .22LR I have ever seen. It's been said before but it is worth repeating: You want accurate and affordable, get yourself a Savage Mk II FV

Inconsistent neck tension with Winchester brass

I am on the second reload of Winchester .308 brass (all the same lot) and I am having some inconsistent neck-thickness measurements. The brass thickness reads anywhere from 0.0115" to 0.0140" (per side) which means that, if I want to maintain the same 0.002" neck tension, I have to use neck...

    Rifle Scopes Millet LRS rings

Re: Millet LRS rings TPS offers a great quality! The three brands that folks seem to recommend the most for the LRS are TPS, IOR and Seekins. I have also read that, for those people mounting this scope over a 20 MOA base (on a bolt gun), the low rings tend to work best. Though we all know...

    Rifle Scopes Millet LRS rings

Re: Millet LRS rings I think they are the extra-tall Millett Tactical rings. Everyone says they are too big (regardless of your action). There are a few companies making 35mm rings but they are all somewhat expensive. Seekins Precision are my favorite at about $200. I went with an EGW 20...

Rifle Scopes counter sniper scope on sale

Re: counter sniper scope on sale I played with these scopes at SHOT Show and I must admit that I wasn't too impressed with them. The glass had good clarity and contrast but the lenses were poorly coated which caused quite a bit of refraction inside the tube. The overall quality of the...

What size bipod rail for Savage F/TR?

I am looking to mount a Harris bipod on my Savage F/TR and I am trying to figure out what rail adapter I need. Harris makes a 5/16" adapter for American styled rails and a 3/8" for European rails. I measured the accessory rail and it is 1/2". Will the 3/8" work in this bipod rail or will I...

    Any benefits to a 1 in 12 twist .308 ?

Re: Any benefits to a 1 in 12 twist .308 ? Great information; thank you all! I went ahead and picked up the rifle today. The previous owner told me that this rifle will shoot the 175 gr bullets fine but is much more accurate with 155 gr bullets.

    Any benefits to a 1 in 12 twist .308 ?

I am seriously considering purchasing a Savage F/TR in .308 that I have recently found online. The price is right ($700 for a rifle that has shot about 200 rounds) and I like the caliber. My only concern is that the twist on this rifle is a 1 in 12 (as opposed to the more popular 1 in 10). I...
