On paper the 7mm-08 is absolutely fantastic- so I built 2. The first had a 30" barrel off of a PTA for shooting from 600-1k. The 2nd was a 24" hunter. Both were extremely finicky- took way longer than usual to find an accurate load and even then they were very temperamental. Neither ever shot...
Great replies- thx for all the good suggestions. Weight isn't a huge issue, the gun isn't going to me a lightweight hunter so I doubt a few ounces one way or another will throw the balance off too bad.
Thanks for the heads up, I will check them out. To be honest I haven't heard great things about Leupold glass so wasn't really considering them. I have plenty of time though so no harm in looking.
Thanks for the reply. So far I've looked through: Swarovski Z5 5-25- loved the glass, don't hear much about themas far as repeatability etc. Zeiss Conquest- same as above. Nightforce BR and NXS- to be honest I didn't love them. I understand that they make their reputation on ruggedness...
Sure this has been covered, tried a search. Have been shooting out to 600-1k for a couple of years with pretty good results using a bench/varmint rifle and a Weaver T-36. Looking to build a field-type rifle for shooting at similar ranges, pushing the 1k envelope when possible. Not...
Re: WMR Great post, thanks for the information. I've been debating between a .22 mag and a .17hmr for a while. Love the fact that .22 mag shoots up to a 50 gr as opposed to the 17 hmr's 20gr but everything I've heard is that the .17 is so much more accurate. Great to see that the .22 can...
Re: What can I expect from this combo? Thanks for the reply. I would really like to see 2" at 200 yards. People say they're getting it with the .17hmr but I haven't seen it done. Would prefer to stay with the .22WMR over the .17 for the heavier bullet.
Savage 93FV .22WMR with a 6-24 mildot scope shooting Hornady 30grn Vmax at 200 yards off of bags. I'll have about 67ft/lbs of energy and be 16.5 in low if zeroed at 100 yards. I know this is an impossible question to nail perfectly, and every gun prefers a different load but what do you think...
Re: .22lr vs .22 mag vs .223 Thanks for the replies. The vast majority of my shooting is a mix between targets and small varmints like prairie dogs. I really like my .22lr and have taken prairie dogs at 150 yards. If I can shoot a .22lr effectively out to 150 yards and a .22 mag only...
Tried a search, sorry if this has been covered. Have an old Glenfield model 60, it's a great plinker. Would like to get something more acurate, with more reach. Considering a Savage MKIIFV or a 93 FV. How much does a .22mag extend your effective range over a .22lr vs the cost of ammo? At...
