What about bbl life. Will the 7mm last longer than the 6.5 creedmoor? What if I was trying to hot rod a 7mm 08, would it out last the 6.5? how does this work?
I am trying to decide between the 6.5 Creedmoor and a 7mm 08. The rifle will be used mostly for targets out to 1000m and varmints. How stout would recoil be on a heavy bbl 7mm 08 with a 162gr Amax? I am guessing it would be comparable to a .308.
I have a stock Ruger M77 MK 2 varmint/target in .243. It has been a pretty decent shooter over the years: 3 shot bug holes with Hornady 65 gr V-Max, Opens up a bit when taken to 5 rounds. I have also shot some 85 gr 5 shot groups under one MOA at 100 yards. I have been dreaming about a 6.5...
I have a .243 winchester Ruger M77 MK 2 Target/Varmint that I acquired back around 1995. It has been a tack driver with 60 gr sierra varmint HP's and Hornady 65 gr V-Max. I would like to use it to knock over 500 M Rams at the silhouette range. I am thinking of trying to load some 105 gr A-Max...
jbailey, are you using any crimp on those? If not,, have you seen any problems with the bullets getting pushed into the case from recoil? please and thanks
Why MRAD over MOA? I thought that MOA was the standard? I am torn on the FFP vs SFP. I like how the object gets bigger and the reticle stays the same size on my current scope. It helps me to precisely target the black dot on the center of the 2" orange dot I shoot at. I know that FFP is nice for...
I am looking real hard at this scope now: Vortex Optics - Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1<br />(MOA) I have read that this scope is not as good as others for shooting at dusk. Why is this? What is it in a scope that makes it "gather light" in low light? I have read that the 50mm objective is a bit big...
I am looking for the right scope for this rifle. Right now it has a Burris XTR 1.5X-6X. I want to take this rifle to the max range of what the 5.56 can do. It is my understanding that that is about 700 yards. I load a 70 gr Berger VLD, it has about the same BC as a 77 gr Match King, but more...
Re: 70gr Berger VLD instead of 75/77gr HPBT? wow HamesBailey thanks for sharing all of your work on this! what are your thought so shooting the 25.4gr load in a Wylde chamber?
Re: Burris XTR 3x-12x 50mm I noticed that Leupold makes a Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14 with an illuminated reticle though it is about $400 more. would it be a better scope? I am new to higher end scopes, my pop was a simmons man growing up....
anyone run this scope? how do you like it? I am thinking of mounting one on my 20" AR-15. I shoot 70gr berger bullets at 2,900fps. will I want the ballistic mil-dot or the standard mil-dot?. seems like the ballisic mill dot would not match up that well with the ballistics of the rounds I run. Is...
Re: 70gr Berger VLD instead of 75/77gr HPBT? I got all excited when I read this thread. I loaded up some 70gr Bergers for my 20" AR. It has a free floated WOA DMR BBL. the most accurate load was 24.5gr of AA2520. I think it measured 0.60" And the load I think will be my "pet load" was...
