    Dings on bolt face?

I bought it at Bass Pro, so I know it’s only been factory fired.

    Dings on bolt face?

So I bought a display gun and the rim around the bolt face has a few small dings. You can just barely feel them if scratched with a fingernail. I’m sure they got there by people taking the bolt out and hitting the back sharp edge of the receiver when putting the bolt back in. Anyway, are the...

    Best Sub-$1000 custom action?

A little off the subject, but I saw several of you recommended the Tikka. If your were to slap one in that specially designed manners t4, would you trust the polymer "bottom metal" and mags for hard use?

    Brakes question....

Are there any brakes that are quieter than others? I want to tame down a 338 win mag hunting but don't want to blow my ear drums out. I was looking at a vais, thruster, or maybe just having it magna ported. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks

    Manners Stocks, bedding?

Hi tom, Does the tikka stocks need pillars? I've been told that they are not recommended for the tikka models. If so, what do you recommend the actions torque to be and will the stock filling crush over time if pillars aren't used? Thanks

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

I was wondering because I don't know much about the truing process. I thought the action threads for the barrel would need to be opened up to make true. If this were correct and the barrel threads trued and made smaller I'm not sure how it could work...unless you set the barrel way way back far...

Gunsmithing Stock barrel after truing action?

Is it possible to have the action trued on a 700 and then use the stock barrel afterwards? What I'm wanting to do is get the action trued, then have a badger recoil lug installed, and have the stock barrel set back, rechambered and recrowned. Can this be done or would I need a new barrel...

    Gunsmithing Uncle Mikes swivel help...

So I get my new Sako rifle with a barrel band. I put my Montana sling on it. I think they use Uncle Mikes swivels as shown in the pic. Anyway, the rear fits perfect in the stud. The hole in the barrel band is super tight for the swivel. I take a wooden dowel and a small hammer and...

Rifle Scopes Scope & Ring Selection, Sako 85 .308

being that i have an 85 on the way, i was interested in the talleys. from what i can tell, do the talleys just slide on the dove tail and then have two set screw on top that dig down into the receiver metal?

    Tikka parts

they are the best machined ive seen. the only thing is the shroud takes a spring to keep it from rattling. i had to cut the spring down because it made the bolt hard to close. im a little afraid the spring may bind at an inopportune time. other than that, it is perfect.

    MK13, M40, M24 question

if they use stainless barrels, why not stainless receivers instead of chromoly?
  14. H

    MK13, M40, M24 question

These are all built off 700 chromoly actions correct? Also, if you were to build a custom rifle, are there any disadvantages to using stainless? They would seem to be more corrosion proof, so I was wondering why the military chooses not to use the stainless actions to build off of.

Gunsmithing Manners mini chassis slight issue...

Well, i filed the receiver with a mini Harbor Freight file set and then took a dremel, mini polishing wheel, and turtle way and polished the area to a mirror finish. It works perfectly now. Thanks for the help.

    Gunsmithing 700 trigger help

And one last thing, Is there anything the big time custom guys do to the trigger to make it feel even better...like take it apart and stone the angles, polish the internals, etc? Or do they just set the pull weight and call it good?

    Gunsmithing 700 trigger help

Now, what i dont like... like i said earlier, the stock safety feels a little bit better (smoother and more positive "click") but its really a non issue as the timney is still smooth and feels fine. the bolt release has a little rattle to it...you can slap the stock a little and hear it rattle...

    Gunsmithing 700 trigger help

After installing it and checking function, I found the bolt release on the timney would bind a little. You adjust it by bending it with needle nose pliers from side to side. I found it worked better and was free of binding bent a little more to the rear of the gun. It works perfectly now...

    Gunsmithing 700 trigger help

I got the trigger installed last night and it was pretty simple. Some tricks... Use a smaller punch on the front pin and you will have enough room to work around the bolt stop. The pins are not that tight, so it doesnt take a whole lot of effort so a smaller punch will work fine. I would...
