Bushing vs. Expander Mandrel For Obtaining Neck Tension

Im loading for 6BRA and wanted to go with the mandrel approach and widden FL bushing die. Ending up a 2000 necktension. I'm Sizing fireformet Lapua brass. My conclusion is that the springback in the brass makes it a very hard calculation. There is difference in neck tension if I run the expander...

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

Nice. its almost like RCBS tried to reinvent that. :) Your press still uses standard shellholders right. ?

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

No i did not try it. But i will and report back. :) But i cannot see that it will make any other difference than failing to make brass contact.

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

Without using the altered shellholder, i cannot press it so it will fit in the Wilson cage gage, in length. That is the entire meaning off the shoulder bump i should belive. Neck perfectly sized and the body fitting my chamber. Shoulders set back just a little to allow a little grid and easy...

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

I might need to ship it overseas to them then. What press did they use to tjek it ? What press do you have. ? Im pretty sure that the shellholder on the Forester presses are super thin. So it not an issue on that press, the die can go much further down over the case in that press.

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

Yes I want the entire neck to be sized, therefore i have left only the smallest play for the bushing. Even with the smallest play the die will not go fare enough down over the case to fully size the neck. I have measued the headspace, and i need to be just under max saami. I loaded 200 rounds...

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

Ill have a look!. I mark the side with black inc pen. Then i can trace how fare down the bushing is sizing the neck and also i have colored the sholders, and its very easy to see if it has contact. Using the Wilsons case gage i first tried with standard shellholder and the die down to...

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

On forester dies its easy to see as the one with the camfer has to point down.. Ill have a look at Wilsons dies.

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

No it only neck sizes parcially. It cannot go fare enough down to bump. Only with my custom grinded shellholder is it possible. But the 6mm needs to go evern further down. So that is why i asked if others have the same issues.

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

I did have my gunsmith to turn down the shellholder as much as possible. This was the only way to get the die working. This dies is a neck sizer with shoulder bump. But the body is just to long. So i guess it will only work with their own press :( I hope my smith can turn down the die body...

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

The die does not bump the shoulders. And the neck is only sized about 90% down with the die in the lowest position.

Forster shoulder bump die cannot bump

Hi everyone. I have bought two forster bump dies, 6.5 Creedmoor and 6 Creedmoor. The bushing is adjusted with a little float inside as in the manual. If i adjust the die to the shellholder as pr manual im missing 2-3 mm of travle before the nect is fully sized, there is no way to get the die...

    Shoulder Bump Question

This is old but i dont think it was solved. I have found that the shoulder bump dies from Forester cannot be adjusted deep enough to bump the dies. They are simply to long and designed for Forsters own press. My setup is RCBS summit with the hornady quick release setup. The only way i have...

Rifle Scopes S&B P4 Fine reticle. Is it too thin???

It's great. But for long range. When you hold wind and if you ever need to hold the missing mills in the reticle it's no good. I have a PM 3-12x50 and a vortex razor gen2 with the ebr2. The ebr2 wins hands down on the reticle part. It's not to cloudy and have numbers all the way down on the...

Buying first rifle - Lf caliber advice

The tikka has Way to limited magazine capacity. Just a hunting competition and you will need to reload the mag or swap the magazine multiple times. The 6.5x55 is to long for a short action magazine. 6.5x47 is the exact same in performance as the 6.5creed. So hire is what questions I...

Buying first rifle - Lf caliber advice

6.5 is a has much better performance than 308. My next barrel is going to be a 6.5creedmore now that lapua have made the brass for it . On 540m last weekend I had to hold 1.5 mills for wind. While the 6.5 shooters only had 0.8 mills. But what is long range for you ?? 6.5x55 is a long...
