How old when you first broke 1000 yds?

When I was 59, last year at Best in the West, a little ways North of Austin, TX with my 6.5 Creedmoor. My first 1000 yard shot was high left due to wind and "1st time @ 1000 yards anxiety," but all other shots (14/15) were hits in a pretty steady 8mph wind from 3 o'clock. The temp was ~92F and...

6.5CM, Issues with 140 AMAX in 8 Twist Edit: Bad Lot of AMAX

Update on Hornady 6.5mm A-Max 140's; lot # 2030191. Tested mine a few weeks ago; they shot crappy, 1.5-2.0 MOA @ 100 yd. (Previous lots I've shot have all been ~ or <0.5MOA). Called Hornady, they said # 2030191 is a known bad lot. They sent me a shipping label for UPS, I sent em' in, and...

Range Report OCW Results: 6.5 Creedmoor, Beger 140 VLD Hunting Bullet

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, the powder is H4350. My initial tendency was to go with ~41.5 since the 41.4 and 41.6 groups were both less than 0.25 MOA. My hesitancy on the 41.8 to 42.2 range (just go with 42.0) is that the groups opened up a bit (for 41.8 and 42.2), but still less than 0.5...

Should "List of Ranges Over 500 Yards" be a Sticky?

Thanks for the few voters so far. I note that "List of Shooting Ranges Over 500 Yards" has over 33,000 views, that's a ton, so lot's of folks are already using this thread. Please vote to make it a "sticky" so that it will always be easy to find. Thanks again.

1,000 Yard Upstate South Carolina Range-WOW!

Thanks a bunch SCOTG. Will do. Another question: Do you folks have any plans to conduct or host any long range precision/tactical matches? Thanks again.

    Will 22lr kill a Zombie

22LR may not always penetrate the zombie skull! The only way to guarantee the 22 bullet gets into the skull to bounce around is entry through the eye socket. This guarantees first round "kills" (actually re-deads).

1,000 Yard Upstate South Carolina Range-WOW!

Thanks so much SCOTG/Bo ! South Carolina Official Training Grounds looks like an excellent new facility. Great to know about. Is it possible for non-members to shoot the 1000 yard range for a day/half-day? You are probably too far for me to consider a membership, but not too far to visit and...

    6.5 Creedmoor Brass Forming

In my view it's much better to know how to do it and not need to, than to need to do it and not know how.

1,000 Yard Upstate South Carolina Range-WOW!

That sounds very interesting. Upstate SC is definitely within driving range for me. By all means, please do add the specifics for this range (name, location, contact info, web site, etc.) to the Ranges Longer than 500 yards thread in this same ELR - Beyond 1000 Yards section. That way we...

    6.5 Creedmoor Brass Forming

Thanks MarinePMI. That's what I was assuming. I've been handloading for several years now (including 6.5CM) but I don't currently have the equipment for neck turning. Anyone willing to recommend a good, cost-effective set up for turning necks? Or point me to good threads in the reloading...

    6.5 Creedmoor Brass Forming

That's a superb pictoral summary of the process of forming 308 into 6.5CM brass there sentry1. Others above have mentioned turning the necks after trimming. Is that also part of your process/what is your experience with neck turning being needed for this particular brass forming process? Is...

What scope are you running on you 22?

Another BSA Tactical Mil Dot 6-24x44mm from Midway here. It's on my Savage Mk II TR. With the 20MOA base it has enough elevation to get to ~300 yards. Cheap (~$130), but works fine for the $.

6.5CM, Issues with 140 AMAX in 8 Twist Edit: Bad Lot of AMAX

Yep. Talked to Hornady folks a little while ago today. They recommended that I test a few to see how they do. If the results aren't good then I'll send some to Hornady to inspect/test. That's how I'll proceed; that seems to be Hornady's normal process. Thanks.

6.5CM, Issues with 140 AMAX in 8 Twist Edit: Bad Lot of AMAX

I too am glad I saw this thread. Just received 300 6.5mm A-Max 140's; all lot # 2030191. Of course that's one of the lots that has problems (according to Joop, beerhunter and jonaddis above.) I'll call Hornady CS today and ask them how to proceed. Don't want to waste a bunch of time &...
