Mammoth Sniper Challenge 2015 - Venue Change Announcement

Ha! I like it. Not exactly "Mammoth" without being in central Kentucky, is it?

Is anyone bringing some of these to sell at K&M this weekend? I've been in the market for a new sling.

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

Our team ran a 223 AR15 as secondary. Shot 75 gr Hornadys. Wind was tricky, but everything was within reach if you know your dope. Secondary shot 2 stages clean and only left 1 target on 3 others. If I had the option of this or a 308 AR10, it would be a toss up and really depend on the...

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

A big thanks to everyone involved in setting up and running this match. This was our 3rd Mammoth Sniper Challenge, and it was by far the best one yet. Thanks to Joe, all the ROs, Nick & Nate, John Paul, the many sponsors, and all the shooters who made this event awesome. Thanks to the...

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

I was rereading the requirements for the TM/ETM teams and I noticed that it states you must carry water...? Last year water was provided at each stage. Is this a change from years past? From the website: Regular Division Must walk the the entire match. Estimated distances are between 1.5...

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

Does anyone remember how the cell reception was around the bath house camp site last year? I think we can watch some football on the WatchESPN app if there is good enough signal. Just sayin. :)

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

Just finished loading my pack. 40 lbs! For me, that's 8 lbs lighter than last year! It seems like I'm forgetting something... like my gun. Hmm. Yeah, its in there. Rifle, ammo, spotting scope, tripod, rear bag, bipod, mags, jetboil, blah, blah, blah. I probably am forgetting something...

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

I know we are starting to get pretty jacked up for it this year. I've got my packed pretty well loaded up. Looking at 42-45 lbs depending on last minute items. I'm shooting my 3-Gun AR instead of my beastly 300WM which saves a lot of weight both with the gun and ammo. The big difference this...

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

In the TRL 200 point model, if I'm understanding it correctly, it doesn't take into account that finishing high in a large match is weighted any different than a small match. If you finish 5th out of 5 total shooters (ok, as really small match) you still earn 192 points. Is that correct?

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

Will all events count toward a shooters overall TRL score or will it be limited to the best 3 finishes (or something like that)? I know a lot of guys who are able to attend a lot more events than me. I will be disappointed if I finish lower in an overall points race by a guy that I've beaten...

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

Wow, I've finally got caught up with this whole thread... I think the Frank's concepts proposed here are on the right track. I'm going to summarize it all for myself to be sure I'm on the right page. 1) Create a centralized location to promote local matches. 2) Create a kit that helps local...

Looks like I'm in. I might bring one more guy with me. If he comes, we'll bring a couple steel plates.

How would/do you attach a tripod to a pack?

With my Eberlestock X3, I slide it under the side compression straps and put the feet in the side pouch (drink/dump pouch). Sinch it down and it stays in tight with the pack, so it doesn't flop around. This works well for a compact tripod.

2014 JP Rifles Mammoth Sniper Challenge

Agreed. It will not surprise me to see teams running 2 308 gas guns. I don't see anything in the rules that indicate it is a problem. In my book, if the rules don't spell it out, assume its good to go.

    75 gr bthp in a 20" 1 in 9?

I've got a very good Hornady 75 gr. load for a 700 VTR with a 1:9 twist... I believe I'm running 24.5 gr of Varget and Fed primers. It shoots 1/2 moa (when I do my part) at 100 and I've made consistent hits beyond 600. Hope this helps.

    Dual spotter/LRF mount

This is an awesome idea. Totally to going to borrow your idea to fit my Bushnell/Vortex combo. I'm sure mine won't be as slick as yours though... :)

Bushnell Elite Tactical LMSS 8-40x60mm Spotter on deck!

I have one of these on loan from a friend in the industry. Without giving too much away, I love it. I'm not sure it has the best glass I've ever seen, but deserves a fair side-by-side to some other spotting scopes with ranging reticles. I really like the size, weight, and the H32. More to...
