    Sierra MK Jump/Jam

SMK are relatively jump tolerant, having said that, I've found 0.020" off to be a common sweet spot for SMK 80 in .223/5.56 or SMK 155 in 308 Palma or SMK 175 in a bolt 308. The 168 SMK jumps just fine in the M1A, as does SMK 69/77 in .223/5.56

Advanced Marksmanship HOME IMPROVEMENT SHOOTING, PART 1.

I agree with the OP's suggestion for .22 rimfire to start. Then if you're serious about learning to truly shoot better, start shooting in competition. That is on paper, with scores, NRA bullseye target shooting. Like they say about football on monday morning, film don't lie, well, the target...

Advanced Marksmanship Service Rifle Group Size

This was a rather nice recent 22 shot practice round shooting by myself on a 100 yd reduced target with AR service rifle. Dropped 3 points in those 22 shots, including that 8 that I pulled. So this would have been a 197-8x, assuming the two sighters were in the 10 ring. My OH scores in...

    Need advice on flyers

the "real" BR shooters often use talc and/or Teflon tape on the stock where it rides on the bags to allow the gun to recoil, or "track" so that it recoils straight and consistently i.e. the stock doesn't hop, etc. Inconsistencies in how the gun tracks will lose a BR match. They use "heavy...

    Need advice on flyers

you listed your rifle action and barrel, and your loads, but not the stock, bedding, scope, and front/rear rest. (There are other things like shooting technique, how well are you watching wind (yes, even at 100yd if you're shooting BR), stock tape, the type of sand in the bags, etc...) If...

I am looking for feedback on a Gracey Trimmer/reamer ?

Gracey's trimmer was a good trimmer when it came out, and if you can score a used one for a good price, take it! But if you're planning to buy new, Doug Giraud's trimmer improved on it regarding ease of use, repeatability, ability to change tool heads, carbide cutter, etc.

    6mm Norma BR loading data

with your choice of powders listed on hand and 105/107 bullets, it will be N150 the other 2 powders listed maybe better for slightly lighter bullets (70-90s) as they are faster burn than N150.

    175 Gr SMK Question

So you are saying that the new rounds were 0.016" longer for the bullet to touch the lands using the comparator from the previous lot of bullets? If so, how many rounds ago was that? 100, 200, 500, more? Its helpful to keep a log for the gun if you shoot a lot to keep track of rounds...

Changing from H4350 to IMR 4350

Similar burn speed but not the same. IMR was the original, and is now made in Canada, while H is made by the Australians. FWIW, my .243 and 7x57 shoots best with IMR4350. My 6XC shoots well enough with the H4350 that I never bothered trying something else.

Help Selecting an AR for "Service Rifle" Comp

BB: lots of good advice up here choice of uppers/barrels all depends upon YOUR budget. RR is excellent out of the box for its price. They use Wilson barrel blanks for their NM barrels. The WOA are also Wilsons, and it certainly doesn't hurt John Hollinger's standings at Camp Perry year after...

Group size changes with target size using iron sights

"I’m middle aged and my eyes really aren’t what they used to be. It seems that as long as I can see the entire target in relation to the front site post I do OK. As soon as it gets a little too large I can clearly no longer hold a consistent sight picture. It’s as if my eyes no longer hold...

    223/556 with IMR4198 or H4895 options

You can shoot up to the 69 grain bullets in the 1/9. Some may also stabilize the 7375/77 but some don't. The 1/8 barrel will shoot everything up to the berger 82. H4895 will be the powder you'd want. 23-23.5 with 77s, and 24.0 with 80 and 69 grain bullets. Up to 25.5 with the 52/55 grain...

How still is your sight picture?

To the OP: why do you put the bipod on sandbags instead of the firm flat concrete bench surface? I think you'd do better if you ditch that, or take the bipod off and rest the forearm stock on the bags. There will always be some transmitted pulse movement to the rifle, even with a full on...

Confused on Varget load for 168 SMK Hodgdon vs Sierra

So if you're shooting 300-600 (midrange), its a fine bullet. Don't worry about the 168 smk. It was originally designed for 300m international shooting. It has won plenty at 600yds as well. You probably will end up around 44-45 grn of Varget with the 168s and commercial brass. It doesn't...

What do you do with bullets that don't fire?

If you reload, its no big to tear it down and reload it. You might even find out why it was a dud, i.e. bad primer vs. forgot to charge powder.

Intial load work up, .223 - 69gn HPBT - Pressure Signs?

To the OP: Fed brass for .223 is known to be thicker and heavier than most other .223 brass. It is also softer than most. You will see pressure signs with Fed and primer pocket loosening with Fed before most others. A "warm" load perfectly fine with LC, WWC, win commercial, RP, etc will...
