You will need to shoot 80grain;s to do anything at 1000. your savage will be fine; 77 grain to 600 will work. My savage shoots well to 1000 with 80G@2920. It has a shilen barrel with a wylde chamber[80 grain rounds are long: 2,50.
I own two savage's that I shoot in F-class.I am not a very experienced shooter.Both my .223 and 6.5CM have Shilen barrels that I put on them. In Feb. I shot a 600 yard match with the 6.5 using copper creek 139 L.S. ammo.It was the first match with this gun. 196-8x 197-6x 195-6x...
I think a few people on here are a little naive.I do not reload or have much interest in doing it [I like to shoot]. Example: Black Hills has access to "powder" that no one on this sight has.[Hornady may also]. I know this because I acquired some of the rounds that BH made for the AM Team...

I use a bipod like that also. Your stock could be hanging up on your bag.Put some talcum powder or monkey butt powder on your stock and bag ears;line everything up as usual; use very slight shoulder pressure and let the rifle come straight back under recoil. One ski could be getting caught...
I was a trucker for many years.I carried a gun in all 49 states with out a permit, all of NY state and every part of NYC.It is a hard decision but some areas are too dangerous to be in with out a gun.I was glad I had it several times but I do not want to go into details at this time.
