What to use for reshaping Choate stock?

I’ve read a bit that different types of stocks need a different type of material to reshape them. I want to reshape a Choate stock and wondering what kind of material to use. Any input on what I need to use and if there’s a difference for large areas vs smaller areas? thanks in advance

Dads montana 99, looking for stock help

I'm part way through redoing my dads rifle to something a little more fun. It's a Montana 99 long action in .300 WIN Mag and trying to find a stock or a chassis setup for it. I know it's basically a winchester footprint with one or two minor inletting differences. I've managed to find detachable...

Range Report Looks like some bad hornaday ammo.

Initially chalked the recoil feel up to the lighter stock. Then this happened. After using the table to knock it loose I noticed it wasn’t the only bad one. I emailed hornaday to see if maybe there’s a bad lot out there, so hopefully when they’re open again we’ll see.

So I came across a Montana 99 action, what can I do with it?

Couple months ago I bought a barreled action, Montana 99, chambered in 300Win. The story I got is he had it barreled, started bedding a stock and passed away. It's not a good job of bedding but it's fixable with a lot of sanding and refinishing the stock. There's no finish on the action or the...

any tips on refinishing or repairing a laminate stock?

I have this really nice looking camo laminate stock I bought years ago and never got time to inlet and get it bedded till recently. It's been through a couple moves and been packed away for years, I broke it out today and it's got a chip in the wood below the barrel channel on the right side and...

    Marlin/Glenfield 25 grouping problems

Got an old rifle that I came into that I'd like to turn into a little shooter. Got it all together and took it to the range for a test fire day. At first I was pretty happy, managed to walk the scope over and all was good till I got it around where I wanted and started putting more ammo through...

so I'm thinking of going with one of these newer designed rifle chassis systems

I see so many people going with stuff that just doesn't look like a normal gun to me that I figure there must be a reason. So I'm thinking of giving it a shot. Right now I'm using a McMillen A4, and aside from the gun being heavy I'm wondering if there's a reason everybody seems to be going with...

help with extractor change in Rem 600

My dad's got a remington 600Mohawk that he bought and has been using as long as I've been alive. Stopped extracting shells so I ordered and put in a new extractor. Never did it before, didn't seem too hard. Overall process was a breeze putting in, or so I thought. Now the bolt is very hard to...

what detachable mag to replace my DD Ross?

When I built this gun detachable mags weren't all that big. I went with the DD Ross bottom metal because at the time that's what the Marine Corps used, I was fresh out of the Corps and leaning toward their way still. Since then I've cut the barrel to 20" and and threaded it, now i'm looking...

Gunsmithing stock repair, will glassing this work well enough?

I recently picked up a Mauser actioned 7mm Magnum at a very good deal. There's a couple minor problems with the wood on the gun though. First is purely cosmetic, the grip cap has a big knick in it that I think I can fix or replace. Second I noticed when I took the metal out of the gun. There's...

Rifle Scopes anybody been in this boat scope shopping?

I'm 33 and my entire life I've grown up with Leupold scopes being the go to kind of thing. Years ago I got into the long range stuff and started buying the Mark 4s. Right now i have a brand new custom job 700action with a USMC contract barrel on it sitting in a nice McMillen waiting on a scope...
