    Short-stroke piston

Can anyone explain how a short-stroke gas piston works? I can't find a decent description which surprises me. Also, If you know any disadvantages of Short-stroke pistons that would be great.

    Bolt catch

How does the bolt catch of a rifle lock the bolt back on an empty mag? and how does it "know" that the mag is empty? And I know there are several different systems, so an explanation of any of them would be welcome.

    Recoil Managment

Re: Recoil Managment Shameless bump. I feel like there is a better answer out there.

    Recoil Managment

Re: Recoil Managment The muzzle climb of an autoloader is due in part to the bolt carrier being slightly higher than the barrel. Also recoil springs and whatnot.

    WA2000

Re: WA2000 Yeah, my point with this project was just to learn as much as I can about precision rifles as I go, and as I learn more I can simplify it more. I want to eliminate the reliability and complexity of it. Simple is good. But my primary goal is the knowledge.

    Recoil Managment

Re: Recoil Managment If it was just ergonomics (I'm assuming it has to do with the scope/stock weld) then why not just elevate the scope?

    WA2000

Re: WA2000 It is largely intellectual, but I do want to make it one day. Not for years though. And I may be late to the bullpup sniper party, but I think my two cents could make a difference one day.

    Recoil Managment

I have a question about the way most bolt guns are designed... or at least what looks to be the case. Since recoil is generated by forcing the round downrange an equal force must be exerted backward. Since most rifles have the barrel's axis elevated above the shooter's shoulder the force of...

    SOCOM PSR

Does anyone have up to date info on this? I know a few fantastic rifles were entered for trials in 2010, but I didn't know if any had been knocked out.

    WA2000

Re: WA2000 I know the cost is very high, which is why I want to redesign it but only on paper. It is less for the rifle and more for the knowledge I'll get along the way. And I'm not trying to troll.
