Re: Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 Mil-Dot I have used mine on black target out to 600yds and have had no problem seeing the reticle. The reticle is not too thin, and very usable at all ranges I have used it to so far with no trouble identifying it and focus is very fast. Hopefully this helps.

Re: Which watch I have the pathfinder. Have never used a suunto but I have nothing but great things to say about the pathfinder. Very accurate readings, have checked them with gps and other devices and has been very accurate wherever i have taken it. Would highly recommend it.
