    You don't necessarily have to have moisture to have oxidation. Just the presence of oxygen and sufficiently high temps will cause it. Just to confirm, there are actually orange patches on and around the weld seam?

    Bad welds. You can tell by how the end of the can is very ragged and the appearance of oxidation in patches where the weld seam would've been. My guess is that the pressure within the baffles caused the front of the can to come apart like a too small jacket on an obese man.

    Maybe the 175s you're shooting just don't like the twist rate or the harmonics are slightly off. Is there really that huge of a difference in BC between a 168 and 175? I know the military just switched, but those R700 barrels are custom contours and custom rifling (twist and type).

    Both .300 WinMag and .338 Lapua are good bets. But you're not going to find anything "off the shelf" with the ammo shortage. So, you might as well build a relationship with your local reloader or DIY on your reloads.
