I was planning on going to back to Arizona for javelina H.A.M. hunt, and plans changed. A precision bolt action backpack pistol is a lot of fun, but I'm in need of another optic. Bolt action pistol. Professionally assembled and headspaced on a Remington 700 virgin action. Remage style barrel...
my 300wsm with h4350 and 208 a-max is 27.2 minutes at 1k. Using those numbers puts the muzzle velocity at about 2780 I believe (26" barrel da @1800 last time I was out before the ice age started! I had a wsm action on hand so that made the decision easier for me. I'm happy with it. Barrel life...
I had a 300wsm built on a model 70. Super happy with it. The only thing I don't like is the availability of aftermarket parts. 700's have that locked up!
Anyone ever use the lathe jig sold by pt&g? I was thinking about ordering one. I'm not much of a machinist but have access to the equipment and a willing teacher, so I might as well try and learn something. It doesn't say its specific to a rifle type, does anyone have info on that?
I had a pair of the fusion 1600 briefly then stumbled into the opportunity to get the new one mile version. I'm by NO means an expert, but I can tell you all what my observations are. I'm very pleased with the bino and rangefinder aspects. The read out is much easier to see in moderate to bright...
It does get dim in the super bright light, but manageable for sure. some reviews you read lead you to believe it's better as a boat anchor if the sun is out, but its serviceable. I don't have good bino's so I think they're going down the road or being returned.
Thought I'd add the farthest I've repeatedly ranged a tree line is 1720,1723,& 1724 yards offhand from out the car window. And different turkeys in a recently cut hay field between 994-1006 yards.
I just got a pair of fusions for a good price, and have since stumbled into the opportunity to get the one miles for not a whole lot more money. I was looking for input to see if it's worth it. I can return the fusions (or possibly sell em as I paid new less than the best refurbished price I...
Thought I'd post my initial outing as I just got it put together. Model 70 300wsm trued/lapped/trigger/26" tube etc... 208 Amax 3" Oal 61gr h4350 was best at just over a half minute @ 100yds. No chrony numbers yet. 62.3 ( Fyi: .3 over Hodgdons published data) had some slight primer...
I would have sworn I read somewhere that pt&g was going to release a dbm bottom metal for m70's either this month or next. I cant find where I read that at, and no mention on their website. I emailed them, but haven't heard back yet. I'll post here if/when I hear back.
I realize this post is a bit old, but I just stumbled across it today. I'm fairly new to the lr arena, but I had a heavy varmint barreled m70 308 that seemed to shoot reasonably well so I spent all my money on a scope :) and ran the rifle I had instead of buying into another project. Yesterday...
stumbled across your post Jr (meathunter)...kind of awesome to see so many people around us! we need to get you loaded up (and my 7mm stw & 300 wsm sold so I can get my rig together) and do a western pa shoot/bbq weekender!
Re: planning my first build I've been looking at doing a similar "build as you go/can afford/skill ste improves" as well. My goal is a long range hunting rig that will be primiarliy used for paper as I live in Pa. I do have access to 200 and 450 yd range and out to 1k once the crops come...
