Sounds like me as I retired May 2011 @ 55. Thirty seven years with the guvmint. Had enough. Started stockpiling several years before retirement just as you had. Both ammo and components. Congrats and enjoy.
User serviceable cans are easy to maintain. Eliminates being without as you don't have to send it off. Most durable would be a stainless can. Not that much more weight then aluminum but will hold up better over the longer run. "The dip" is a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. DO...
Somewhat pricey and discontinued but available is the CZ Kadet. Reliable and fun. Ruger MKIII 22/45 with MK II bushing and VZ grips. Bushing is easy install and makes mag changes and takedown less complicated. One of my favorites. I suspect both will last for a couple of generations.
I had fitment problems with my Kidd/Spectre. Sent the barrel back to Kidd and Tony chased the threads and no more problems. Thought I was the only one with this problem. Still worth the trouble as the Kidd is very accurate.
I purchased my DPMS at the Spring Wannemachers Show. I saw several at the Fall Wannemachers. Being a 4100 table show you are bound to find most anything. They are out there. Love this rifle-
