If you like the 642 better, for whatever reason, you can make the trigger better with an Apex kit. 25 bucks and a short installation video about 30 minute job.

Necessity? Metal sights. I'd also go ahead and pick up some extra parts like the trigger spring, an extra guide rod/ recoil spring, pins, etc...for not a lot of money. Beyond that I'd go shoot it as it is and then worry about mods.

I prefer leather for revolvers. Check out simplyrugged.com or loboleather.com. I've got both and like them for revolvers.
