Around 1971/72 a brick of Remington was $4.50. My friends dad would drop us kids off at the range to shoot and pick us up 4-6 hours later. It was a public range in the woods with no rangers or range masters.

Anyone Remember These Times In America?

1973. I was 14 and worked at a Gulf gas station part time. We were the only station open on Sunday at the time. Cars lined up a quarter mile up the street and the line wrapped around to the off ramp to I-35. seems to me that gas was about 42 cents a gallon at that time.

    MOA with Mosin Nagants?

In post #50 I said: I tested my rifle in a lot of iterations including with the original barrel. When I slugged the original barrel after a particularly disappointing trial the slug fell through the middle third of the barrel , got tight about 6" from the muzzle and then fell out the end. The...

    Can't zero my gun?

Funny/sad story for you. I have a very good friend who is way into guns but frankly only actually shoots five or six shots a year on his annual deer hunting trip. The guy works a LOT of hours/week. The second year the Ruger Precision Rifle came out he snatched one up in .308 then ordered a...

    Can't zero my gun?

My money is on your scope being bad. Try another one. I had a particular scope that drove me nuts. It'd hold zero for a few shots then toss shots 8" away. I chased my zero around until it dawned on me that the scope was bad. I returned the scope under its lifetime warranty. Mounting a...

Gunsmithing Lathes for precision rifle building

Many years ago The man who owns Grizzly tools posted on the PracticalMachinist forum (user name papagrizzly), mostly in the South Bend Lathe Forum (especially after he bought the rights to the SBL name). He said pretty much the same thing, that the lathes were produced in a common plant, but...

    Auto Powder Droppers

I have a Chargemaster that gave me a little trouble at first, I read a bunch of things online that people tried to do to them from changing the speed controls to shoving McDonalds straws into the nozzle. I didn't mess with the programming because I figured that RCBS would have done their...

    HK 91/G3/PTR91

There is no "receiver stretch". The bolt gap closes over a long period of time (if the rifle was properly built) as the forward window in the bolt head and the shoulders of the locking piece get indented from the constant peening of the much harder rollers. The bolt head and LP are essentially...

    HK 91/G3/PTR91

Like all military rifles all of the above mentioned brands are overgassed on purpose to ensure function in the worst environments. The bolt opening delay is regulated by the angle of the locking piece. PTR mimmicked HK by using a 45 degree LP. If you're OK with the recoil and accuracy as is...
