< $1500 "just works" bolt action

I have a stock Savage PC (non-threaded version) in 308. Love it. Almost had to sell it... My best so far is about 1 MOA out of the box accuracy. The bolt is not nearly as smooth as a tikka. It's a bit of a rugged action. When I did my research I got a lot of mix reviews. My personal...

< $1500 "just works" bolt action

< $1500 "just works" bolt action Oh I see. My bad. And yes thinner barrel would generally mean heats faster/cools faster. Tikka has other versions with heavier barrels. Either way I would push tikka because it really suits what you're looking for. Out of the box awesomeness for a great...

< $1500 "just works" bolt action

I think the Tikka T3 Lite is your best bang for your buck. Spend the rest on glass as mentioned earlier. And you can always thread the muzzle later. Retail is $578 on eurooptics.com. It certainly fits your "just works" needs.

    Tikka T3 Picture Thread.

Definitely saving that for later. Do you know if it rattles? I looked at Lumley's (has similar shape) but it's said to rattle and it costs $100... Or at least at the time I checked. Thank you for the link!

    Tikka T3 Picture Thread.

Thank you for the info. While researching the tikka I kept hearing these shrouds crack easily. My 308 hasn't cracked yet and I reeeaaalllllyy like the look of the plastic shroud. Hoping I may luck out.

Do you know how they cracked? Running it hard? Recoil? Or just one day you found it like that?

Whiskey-3 Chassis: Gen 4 is here!

If you get the chassis from KRG they should provide two plastic rails with the chassis. One small and one large. It's on their website. Information is a year old or so. Might want to check their site yourself.

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

Muahahaha! Another tikka fan! Disclaimer: as mentioned by another user.. Recoil lug sucks. But with 223 I don't know if it will matter. Its made of aluminum and it might hold against a 223 recoil. If you see it bending, then buy an oversized recoil lug to replace it (assuming your not buying a...

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

700 is a tinkers wet dream. Everyone can work with it. I didn't want a 700 because it was too standardized. But I went with the 308 round. Yeah I'm weird like that.

No. Very different. Lots of info on the hide about these two.

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

What's your plans for the rifle? How much work are you going to get done on it? Or are you keeping it factory as long as possible? Both shoot well out of the box. I would say tikka is better but that's very biased on my part.

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

Just note that you will need to spend more on ammo for better consistency if you are going for precision at long distances. Especially since your not loading your own rounds yet. I'm going to mention KRG Whiskey 3 because I have one and find the LOP adjustment to be extremely friendly. And no...

Building a rifle for the wife..............and me

Honestly I wouldn't worry about the recoil unless you're upping the caliber to the 30's. Focus on the ballistics. Recoil for a 223 without a brake is weak. Add the brake and it's a joke. I'm fairly certain your wife was scared of it because she didn't know just how weak the recoil was. But...

    xlr or pdc

Never shopped for PDC but I bought an XLR and definitely suggest it. I use high mounts also. I measured it by making sure the scope can clear the base. It's not exactly the same level but it's extremely close. Looking at the PDC website I would still choose XLR.

    Pws mk116

I was checking out Primary Weapons Systems and I was wondering if anyone knew if the MK116 was considered a precision upper. I'm really curious about the accuracy between a custom like Les Baer's upper, Noveske's uppers and PWS uppers. Mainly focusing on the precision side of things. Thanks!

Tikka T3 w/ Accurate Mag 223 mags: do they feed ok?

You have to shave down the feed lips a little if it's in a KRG W3 Chassis. Source: KRG's PDF on advantages and disadvantages of tikka t3.

    Ceracoated bolt

Have a tikka t3 that was Cerakoted all over. Cerakote came off almost immediately on high friction points. It's very small though. If your worried about looks then yes it will look used at some point. If your worried about protection. Don't? Lol. Can always put a very very small layer of grease...

Need an answer? was it bulls*** or true?

Trying to recall from hazy memory. But isn't this point blank range for hunters? Something like .308 round at 100 yards. They set .8 inches over point of aim. This means (can't remember exactly so don't take these numbers to heart) anywhere between 50 yards and 180 yards they can aim straight at...

Recommend a rifle to learn on? And why a PF action?

These brand wars will always happen. Can't be avoided and they help bring the pros and cons out for the brands. Just try to avoid posts that compare a 700 to an AI (apples to oranges, completely different tiers) This is your starter rifle. My suggestion is don't jump to the end. Start with the...

    Savage bottom release bolt lever.

Have you looked at chassis systems? Very simple. Unscrew old stock. Drop your rifle into chassis. Screw it in. Done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
