Sidearms & Scatterguns Pistol for Grizzly Bear Country

I reckon most of the instances of being actually charged by a bear are going to be within 30 yards or so. In those instances 9 38 cal pellets, moving at 1100 plus fps, hitting a bear in the face with the energy of each pellet equaling that of a 38 special, should be a pretty great method of...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Pistol for Grizzly Bear Country

Never seen any speed reports for the serbu loaded with slugs, have shot a pumpkin with buckshot out of one though and the results were nothing short of astounding. That said it still would take a back seat to a BFR, I want one to compliment my ruger number 1 but being a cheap ass I haven't...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Pistol for Grizzly Bear Country

+1 hsm has a good bear load tailored for that revolver and those garret hammerheads hit like a lightning bolt. Fuck a 500 smith, I'm shooting a RIFLE CARTRIDGE at a wounded bear, or anything else that intends to maim me.. other option might be a serbu shorty loaded with slugs. Seen them...

carbon fiber stocks from evil empire

vtb if you make one for the savage model 10 and need someone to put it through its paces id be glad to help you with that. Bear season is fast approaching in the northwest and a lightweight stock that doesnt flex would be just about ideal for carrying through the cascade mountains searching for...

Going with .270, LETS TALK BARRELS

i think the more important question than which barrel is which bullet? love the 270, hell even like the 6.8 spc but long range bullet selection for lack of better words sucks. 150 gr vld makes a good hunting round but get a 6.5 mm and the selection improves or a 7mm and the selection improves...

.308 OR .270 OR something else for first custom 'sniper' do everything gun?!

I'd go 280ai or straight 284 winchester before either the 270 or the 308. 308 runs out of oomph around 800 yards after that it drops like a stone and the 270 while being a fantastic round for hunting just doesn't get a lot of love as far as good bullets are concerned. Honestly I'd love to mess...

Fn spr for Leo sniper if not what you suggest?

If you like a push feed action, congrats to you, but it certainly doesn't make the action better than a savage. The trigger on the newer Winchester and fn rifles blows ,unless you know a smith, theyre too heavy and break sort of spongy. Not saying the accutrigger is the best factory trigger...

Fn spr for Leo sniper if not what you suggest?

The fn is a nice rifle, but for less money, better aftermarket following, out of the box better trigger and in my never humble opinion better accuracy I'd go with the savage model 10 in an hs precision stock. If I'm not mistaken savage also makes concessions for LEOs.

    H&K/Walther MP5 .22lr Red Dot Recommendations???

Never had a tru glo one but had a simar looking barska on my gsg for a long time and never had a single issue. Youll need a claw mount for optics, nc star makes them, as does hk and several others, can't speak for the umarex rifles but the pre lawsuit gsg was ebery bit as accurate as my heavy...

    45-70?

i havent tried the straight lead cast cast bullets yet but id like to. so far my go to bullets have been the 405 gr remington soft points and the 350 gr hornady round nose bullets both of which are inexpensive and give decent accuracy. ive also played with horandys dangerous game bullets a bit...

What is the most Historically Significant Cartridge?

most influential cartridge, can i pick more than one? 22 lr has trained more people to shoot than probably any other round, the 250-3000 savage was the first to surpass the 3000 fps marker (may not sound impressive now but in 1913 when it managed the feat people thought it had done the...

    45-70?

ive got a ruger no 1 in 45/70 and with the right loads i can safely acheive speeds within 100 fps of the 458 win mag, i dont know that your brake action can handle that hot of a load but even the loads developed for rifles like the marlin will still thump the shooter pretty well and flat...

What is the Most Historically Significant Sniper Rifle?

i know its not got a long history, but what about the barret m82a1? it truly changed what people thought possible with a man portable shoulder fired weapon. i believe that it brought about a real and tangible change in the modern battlefield. could be wrong but just my .02

Advice on $600 low budget long range rifle

savage model 10 fcp for a rifle under a grand cannot be beaten, by cz or anyone else. picked one up in 308 used for 600 cash and without doing anything but torquing the action screws and mounting some glass it outshoots every remington Ive ever owned or even shot. also easy to tailor a load for...

How much clearance between barrel and forend on a FF setup?

I don't think there's a standard measurement to how much to float a barrel. The idea is you just don't want it to touch under not only the weight of the rifle but also not during recoil. Load up your bipod and have a friend see if its making contact, and if so where. Then take out some of the...

    Trackingpoint firearms are pretty dumb!!

I'm hardly copping out, my reasons to mot support it are it isn't the type of thing I would get into. My not begrudging others is based on if they feel like spending 20 grand to get a system capable of allowing them to do what they did in the video more power to them. I watched the video a...

    Trackingpoint firearms are pretty dumb!!

I don think he was comparing shooting a rifle was anything like shooting a bow. I believe what he was saying was that not every animal is DRT every single time regardless of what the shooter has in his hands or the distance at which he's shooting. As far as the shooting system is concerned making...

Issues with -- New Remington 700 308 target tactical VTR 5R 26" VTR

I'd honestly stick with the rifle you've already picked out. I'm not a fan of the 700 action, bit of a savage snob truth be told, but credit where its due that 700 TT is downright awesome. The stock is more than adequate for the shooting I'm capable of and while I hate the new rounded trigger...
