New lapua Scenar-L .308 Win 175gr bullets - any experience?

This. The 175 SMK isnt the bullet of choice for the Ole Big Military because it's the best; it's the bullet in use because it's cost effective, jump tolerant, and good enough. It's no surprise to the folks at Crane that other bullets with higher BCs do the job better with less wind deflection...

    good trigger for around $150

The OP brought it up, does anyone have any experience good or bad with Huber triggers? They're on the expensive side, but I haven't heard many other cons... I've always heard Timney as the workhorse trigger.

    Desert boot recommendations

Lowa Zephyr Desert Mids if you want function over form (not waterproof unless you go non-desert Zephyrs). My experience with Rocky's is as issued gear and they do look good with the desert uniform. I have a buddy who wore them overseas and said they worked fine for that kind of thing too; I...

What Sling do you Use? (GAP 10 / AR Style Rifle)

Understood, What I am talking about weighs about 11 (just under) pounds without optics. Not sure how much you are mentally adding for optics (lets say two pounds) and atlas bipod and we are talking around 14lbs as well. Still not sure how a VTAC two point can't support that kind of weight.

What Sling do you Use? (GAP 10 / AR Style Rifle)

Your kidding me right? Weight wise both of the rifles I referenced are similar to a GAP-10 and thats what we are talking about here. Understood a SCAR doesn't have the same accuracy but we are talking about taking it through the woods and hiking. You are picking the one thing I casually...

What Sling do you Use? (GAP 10 / AR Style Rifle)

I use it with my CMMG 308 and SCAR Heavy... and yeah, I've carried them extended distances and multi-day excursions with it. And haven't really had the padding interfere with anything I was going to do. The OPs purpose: "I typically will be using mine for hunting while walking / hiking." -...

What Sling do you Use? (GAP 10 / AR Style Rifle)

+1 VTAC VTAC Two Point with QD swivels and two to one adapter. Easy application strong/weak side offhand (in single point config), can move the rifle to your back and cinch it down if climbing gets rough (two point). It's a very easy going sling for quick tightening and loosening (overall...

    Recommendations on small medic pouch

As a quick note, I've actually seen the plastic windlass on a TQ snap on a upper femoral hemorrhage. So yeah, get whichever one you want...

    Tracking gunfire with a smartphone

No worries at all, reading the article it sounds like the capability will be part of a small network between team members- "Like the military version, the smartphone system needs several nodes in order to pinpoint a shooter’s location." So you and your buddies would basically all need to have...

    Recommendations on small medic pouch

^^^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^ Bleeding and airway are what kills folks quick (< 15 Minutes), so those are what you should aim to treat on scene before the local first responders arrive. My advice (for what its worth on the internet not knowing me from Adam): Make sure any tourniquets you get don't...

    Tracking gunfire with a smartphone

You can tell from the snap even with peltors on. It IS extremely difficult (which is why we are developing all the cool gear to make it easy) but sound like that still isn't exactly "non-directional". What makes it difficult is the speed of the bullet; your ears/brain determine the direction of...
