Sidearms & Scatterguns XS Big Dot vs Advantage Tactical

I was on the fence about getting XS Big Dots, then heard some negative feedback. Most of this feedback was "the big dot won't be good for shooting at distance". After hearing that, I cooled on them a bit. Then, I had a chance to run them FAST, in defensive scenarios, Hogan's Alley stuff, slow...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Grip Length Reduced Glocks

I don't see anything wrong with (well done) cut jobs, but I don't see much point, either. Why not just get a 19/23/32? 1/2" of sight radius and 30fps of velocity isn't game changing. DeFoor and others have proven repeatedly that a 19 is plenty accurate out to 50 yards.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Tactical handgun

I choose Glock for concealed carry, open carry (outside of town), home defense, etc. I don't think Glocks are any better or worse firearms than a few other options, but they are often a better *choice*. There are a lot of reliable, accurate choices on the market. Here are the reasons why I...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Carry knife preferences

I carry a Leatherman Juice S2 (mini multitool) every day, for all kinds of tasking. I pair it with a Spyderco Persistence while I'm working, and switch to this when I'm off: Al Mar Payara

Sidearms & Scatterguns No more Glock bite for me.

Beaver tails are appealing enough to me that the new backstraps were the incentive I needed to finally trade my 23 in on a 23 (Gen 4). It exceeded my expectations. That pistol shoots like a 9mm.

Sidearms & Scatterguns need advice for a pistol

My bad for the context miss. Unfortunately, I don't think anything would be readily available, unless you already had it stocked up. Then again, people aren't going to revolt as long as the Kardashians are around to keep them occupied. We're probably safe.

Sidearms & Scatterguns NRA Conceled Carry Qualifications for Civvies/ Do they really check the Quality?

My entire purpose for entering the discussion here was to refute the idea that civilians should not be defensive pistol instructors. I used an extreme example, because it demonstrates that such a thing (a qualified civilian) exists. One of my points is this: personal experience is not...

Sidearms & Scatterguns need advice for a pistol

"Readily available"? I don't know anyone with any training or experience who will be putting themselves in position to be relieved of their health or property. The Feds are unlikely to run into gunfights and die in the streets. The consensus seems to be, "if SHTF, stay out of the way, and...

Sidearms & Scatterguns NRA Conceled Carry Qualifications for Civvies/ Do they really check the Quality?

For the record, when I brought Rob up, it was as an example that civilians CAN offer something at a defensive course. Nobody in this thread said anything remotely negative about Rob.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Kahr PM9 vs Kahr CM9

The price difference between the two pistols represents polygonal rifling and extra slide machining (external shape, functionally irrelevant) for the PM9. Barrel peening with these is... I wouldn't say 'common', but not unusual. Kahr machines VERY tight tolerances. You'll get hood marks on a lot...

kraig, I suspect that your classes provide a lot of very relevant thoughts and learning points. Addressing real needs and real life is a very good thing, sir.

Sidearms & Scatterguns NRA Conceled Carry Qualifications for Civvies/ Do they really check the Quality?

One of my gripes with the practice of seeking instructors with military backgrounds is context. You get guys who usually pocket carry LCPs without spare mags, and they're "running" service pistols and OWB double mag carriers, with some guy claiming Spec Ops background drilling them on shooting...

XD or XDm, Glock 22 or 23, M&P 40... you can't go wrong with those. The Ruger SR series gets mixed reviews, though most are very positive. That's a low cost option, with a low bore and a nice trigger. My favorite is a Glock 23 (Gen 4).

Sidearms & Scatterguns Glock 22 vs Springfield XDM opinions

Have had both, would trust either. I'm of the opinion that they are equal, except that Glock has more support. If you have ready access to all of the support items that you need (holsters, mags, maybe sights), go with your preference. Any decent shooter should have a very easy time being...

Sidearms & Scatterguns NRA Conceled Carry Qualifications for Civvies/ Do they really check the Quality?

You're crediting people with zero experience with teaching theory based material. That may happen sometimes, but there are other people who have zero personal experience and teach material derived from the experiences of others. It should be obvious to many people that certain truths are common...

Sidearms & Scatterguns NRA Conceled Carry Qualifications for Civvies/ Do they really check the Quality?

Being a douchebag or qualified has nothing to do with civilian vs service. Neither does shooting ability. There are lots of people running around who were mil or LE, and have never had to present a firearm under stress. There are lots of mil or service types who can't shoot for shit, and many...
