I’ve shot a few critters with my .22GTs pushing 88gr ELDs and they are very impressive. The cartridge is just plain fun to shoot. Light recoil makes spotting your impacts a breeze, it’s flatter than my 6.5 Creedmoors but does just as well in the wind. The only thing that would make me wish I...
Found a charge that shoots well in both of my Bartlein 5R 1:7 barrels. Both are 20” barrels, one an M24 and the other a 3B. 35.6 gr H4350 behind a Berger 85.5 shot the .216” group out of the M24 contour and the same charge behind the 88gr ELD-M shot the .452” group from the 3B contour. Four of...
Just had another barrel (.22 GT) spun up by Jon Beanland of Beanland Custom Rifles. This is the most concentric chamber I have ever seen and typical of everything Jon does. and it shoots…. Four are in .127”. The “flyer” opened it up to .452.” John
I run a 20” Bartlein barrel on my .22GT. About 3080 with 88s. Are you going to use a suppressor on it? If I wasn’t going to run a suppressor, I wouldn’t give up the fps by going shorter. John
I use the Tract Toric Spotter with the fixed 22x MRAD eyepiece. Huge wow factor every time I look through it. Nice military discount too… Spotter: https://tractoptics.com/spotting-scopes/toric-uhd-27-55x80-angled-spotting-scope Eyepiece...
Another falls victim to the .22GT. 88gr ELD-M at 3080fps. No exit wound but DRT. About 300 yards. Couldn’t get an exact range due to tall blowing wheat and terraces, but took best guess for multiple readings and used 1.0 mils for 330 yards. John
While the DMR III is an outstanding scope, the reticle is too Fine for low light hunting and not illuminated either. It is also much heavier than I would want on a hunting rifle. I recommend you wait patiently for a pre-owned Bushnell 4.5-18 LRHS, LRHSi, LRHS2 or an LRTSi to become available...
As far as optics go, precise tracking and zero retention are priority followed by reticle and then glass, in that order. Reticle selection in a crossover is critical. You want FFP and the reticle needs to be bold enough to see on low mag in low light or illuminated. A used Bushnell LRHS or...
