Sticky bolt-cycle remedies? Titanium long action

A quick internet search shows that IonBond has an FFL for their facilities in Greensboro, NC and Portsmouth, NH. Their website even shows one of their coatings (Decobond FDE-STD-595B) on a M1911 frame. I suggest contacting Ton Hurkmans ([email protected]), and ask him about how to coat your...

Sticky bolt-cycle remedies? Titanium long action

IonBond has several PVD and DLC coatings that are available. I think they have an FFL, so they can probably treat your receiver. One of their coatings would be my first choice. Titanium and its alloys are weird materials. If they can be chromium- or nickel-plated, then those could be some...

Sticky bolt-cycle remedies? Titanium long action

Some studies have shown that gas nitriding 6Al-4V titanium can decrease its fatigue strength. Meloniting your receiver will give it a hard surface, but some of its strength might be sacrificed. DLC might help, but you will have to get the bolt raceways smooth before they are coated. Later, Kevin

Sticky bolt-cycle remedies? Titanium long action

Titanium is not a particularly good material for bolt-action receivers. Generally, it is not as hard as the alloy or stainless steels that are usually used. Titanium is much more prone to galling than steel, which can result in a sticky or rough feel to the action. Old, military receivers...

Great Article on the Army / Remington XM110 Program

We did not have many resources at DPMS. The program was ran fast and frantic. Some testing was performed by the Remington crew, and some by the DPMS crew. Several parts were also prototypes or ones from low volume production runs. Either way, little testing was performed on some components...

Great Article on the Army / Remington XM110 Program

I worked on the SASS solicitation with Mike Haugen. At the time, I was the Engineering and Quality Control Manager for DPMS. It was a fun and exciting program to work on. I never got to try the Surefire sound suppressor, but I did get to test the OPS Inc. 3rd Model and 12th Model sound...

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

The rifle ejects spent cartridge cases to the side. The rifle should be safe to shoot left handed. Here is a video I found of a competitor at the Trijicon World Shooting Championship. From time 11:19 to 12:35, she is shooting the Ulfberht rifle. 2014 Trijicon World Shooting Championship -...

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

Yes, the rifle is accurate out to long ranges. It has been proven to achieve MOA and better accuracy out to 1,400 yards. Later, Kevin

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

Sorry about being late with some detail photos. Some of the articles about the rifle had some really good photos, with RECOIL magazine having some particularly nice ones.

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

********************************* Yes, I did design the rifle. I talked to Bill Alexander regularly during the last couple of years of the design. Alexander Arms did all of the development of the rifle, and they are currently marketing and manufacturing it. They get a lot of credit for its...

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

The bolt is nothing like the one in the Kalashnikov family of assault rifles. It is much more like the ones in the DP-28 and RPD machineguns. The piston is like a long version of the one in the Kalashnikov assault rifles.

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

The barrel is not pencil thin. I think the area between the gas block and the flash hider is about 7/8" in diameter. It looks smaller than that because the barrel is 27.5" long (plus flash hider). The barrel section between the breech and the gas block is over 1" in diameter. The receiver...

Ulfberht! Alexander Arms' .338 Lapua Magnum 10 shot - folding stock semi-auto

You are a lucky guy! Did you shoot it at the Trijicon World Shooting Championship? If so, the side match with the Ulfberht rifle was suppose to be only one shot, but the range was 1,500 yards. Did everyone you talked to about the rifle also like it? I've only been able to shoot it at no more...

    Market for .338 in AR10?

The rifle isn't built on the AR platform. It is more like the DP28 light machinegun. It's good to see someone else from Purdue. I grew up there and attended school there. Later, Kevin
