Actually, rimfire target rifles can delivery significantly better accuracy at sub-100m ranges than centrefire. However, that's for target rifles, not warmed up field rifles as we're discussing here. This is pretty common. I was lucky and my BV settled with only about 500 rds but 800-1000 was common for bedding in our club target rifles years ago.
