AR10 on .308/NATO Barrel: Length? Fluted vs. Bull?

A buddy of mine is getting ready to put together an AR-10 in the thinking about barrels. Fluted versus bull? Length? Pretty much an all-around range toy. Our range currently goes to 400 but would like to see what he can do to rival the performance of his .308 RPR. Maybe out to 800 or 1,000 one...

8mm 1950s Bulgarian Surp – Save For Reloading or Sell?

Yeah, I found that out the hard way. I just wanted to rip one open and see what was inside.

8mm 1950s Bulgarian Surp – Save For Reloading or Sell?

There was no pulling the bullet with pliers and a vice. So unable to fire the primer . I cut the head off. Dry stick powder with that sweet combloc chemical smell. The inside of the case and the bottom of the boat tail bullet is immaculate.

8mm 1950s Bulgarian Surp – Save For Reloading or Sell?

A guy on another forum claimed the primers were fine but it's the powder that's bad. I'm not a reloader but this doesn't seem to make sense to me. Firing pin hits the primer and nothing happens but a click? The primer went off (silently) and is good but the powder is just waiting to burn? I...

8mm 1950s Bulgarian Surp – Save For Reloading or Sell?

Probably a bit more background indicated ...... I don't reload now but have a brand new 550 (still in box) and a bunch that goes with it including a crap-ton of accessories, tools, primers, powder, NATO and some other bullets. I know the corrosive, berdan primers are spent, which is why I...

8mm 1950s Bulgarian Surp – Save For Reloading or Sell?

Several years ago I picked up a 2,400 rds of 8mm Bulgy milsurp. Unfortunately, as warned, it’s pretty much all click-bang, hang-fire due to poor primers. The insides of the cases is pretty much clean and for the most part all fire. I spoke to a buddy that reloads and as a cost analysis for...

Boyds Stocks: Laminate or Solid Walnut ?

I have a collection of mainly 20th century battle rifles. All presumably milspec’d to withstand the rigors of combat/abuse. Virtually nothing I own, aside from a few in polymer, wears a new commercial wood stock and nothing so seemingly fragile as a Boyds laminate that I feel failed on me...

Couple Mausers – Which to Glass?

Back to the "Topic of blasphemy" (for some). I'm going to clone the 24/47 into a Balkan "Conflict" DMR via a set of ZRAK Swing Mounts + ONM76B scope. And I bought an M48, bent handle, bolt body off eBay and swapped internals wi the 24/47 bolt. I transferred a BadAce + LER Burris from my 98/29...

Spotting Scope TriPod Recommendations (for a heavy Vortex)

Curious who they knocked off. Bought one and ended up sending it back. Heavy duty table top form factor with multple leg positions was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Nice precision movement, no wobble and could handle the weight. But vertical adjustment knob was too finicky with no...

CMP3006N "CMP Match" Ammo - Any Intel On This Stuff ?

I ended up getting two cases of this stuff for the same price as the latest 1969 M2 Ball offering. It is beyond difficult to transact business via the CMP estore nowadays, no one takes calls, returns vmails or responds to email (for weeks) and good grief, the CMP Forums is an absolute train...

Spotting Scope TriPod Recommendations (for a heavy Vortex)

I have an older, fairly heavy Vortex Skyline ED 20-60x80 (Angled) @ just under 6lbs. Had it for years, the glass is clear and serves my purposes out to 500 or so yards. I'm looking for a lower height/profile tripod for use on a bench or occasionally shooting prone. The few I've tried have...

CMP3006N "CMP Match" Ammo - Any Intel On This Stuff ?

Sorry, There isn't a general Ammo section on the forum so I figured this might be a place to run into some intel. Yea, I'll reload on day (and this will make for good brass) but wondering id anyone might know anything about this stuff. Apparently branded and offered by CMP in the early...

Couple Mausers – Which to Glass?

Got her back out today. Nice 61-degree break from the recent deep freeze. Using 1990’s 8mm Yugo M75 I was able to zero in with repeatable 2” (+/-) groups. Could stretch out to 400yd, 12” steel with ease. I moved over to 1956 Yugo M49 on stripper clips. Despite overall less than favorable...

Optic Needed for Intro to Precision Shooting course

I wanna thank everyone for their input. Yea, I really need to go there and rent glass for my RPR. I agree I should be able to find some decent glass at or sub $1.5k after the fact, but I'm not going to rent a whole rifle rig. The RPR is what I own and the guy said it would do for the course...

Optic Needed for Intro to Precision Shooting course

I have been plinking away and slamming steel for years with my 20th century, milsurp / battle rifle collection. Rudimentary instruction from friends in the early days plus and trial and error is how I've been running the last many years. Pretty much everything I shoot has to have glass, now...
