Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Hi guys, I haven't been around in a while. I was surprised to see this thread still going strong with over 15000 views. In my absense I've been busy working on my Youtube channel. Some of my first vids were very amatuerish but I'm getting the hang of it. Here's a gong target that was taken at...

    Hello from South Africa

Thanx BB, there aren't very many guys interested in long range airgunning here in SA-most are into Field target and bench rest. It seems I'm starting to get through to them. We hold an annual 100m indor shoot which I haven't attended yet, my rifle isn't setup for bench rest as I do all my...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Brilliant stuff, do you guys guess the holdover or do you shoot in your distances? Many people don't know how effective that is, my scope has true mildots and I zero in on the very top md at 30yrds. The very last mildots is my 160yrd mark. Any crow or starling within 160yrds is fairgame.

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Thanx Bohen, I don't know if you realize it but you have one of the best pcps ever built. Not even the most expensive electronically regulated airrifles produce the consistency (absolutely critical for long range accuracy) that the Kalibr rifles do. Your rifle will do sub MOA at 100yrds with...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Hi Nutt, man I had a good laugh. You definitely know our guys well. I don't drink anymore as it interferes with my time behind the trigger but when I did my preference was KWV or Richleu brandy. Yes the airgun thing in SA has grown into something huge. Many of our guys take part in...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Thanx Broylz, if you're just going to plink, .177 will knock your socks off if you see how accurate they can be at 100yrds+. Powerwise, you'll need a 10,5gr pellet at around 950fps and for squirrels you'll be fine out to about 90-100yrds as long as its headshots. I've taken starlings at 150yrds...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Hi Tim, yes I'm facebook friends with Ted. I've got all the cameras, just waiting for a camera mount for my scope cam. My idea with the vids came from guys on our local airgun forum that wouldn't believe when I told them at what ranges you can shoot with an airrifle. Wind sensitivity on a pellet...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Yes I have a Daystate shooting at the same power level but the Condor is my 'go to' rifle when I go hunting. What I like about it is the versatility. You can set the rifle up for any application for instance if I wanted to go ratting I could fit my .177 barrel which takes a few mintues, adjust...

Hunting & Fishing Long Range Airrifle hunting

Hi guys, I've been doing the long range airrifle thing for about 3 yrs now and its starting to pay off. When you think about airrifles, you think 50yrds maybe 60 or 70yrds. For the last 2 years I've been concentrating on taking starlings at 100yrds+. Winter is the only time of year when the...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Thanx for the update Steve, if that FX .30 had the same power as the Condor it would be a brilliant 200-300yrd rifle. I've never owned a FX rifle but I hope to some day. Below is a link to a vid of a FX .30 at long range. FX Boss .30 CRUSHING Pest Birds (when I didn't miss) - YouTube And...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Woogie, apologies I missed your post. Yes you can fit a .22 silencer to an airrifle, I had one on my first Condor. It was super silent and the only surpressor that could handle the high power levels. Silencers aren't always effective on all rifles, it will be brilliant on one rifle but not very...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Yes the Condors kick up a fuss at high power settings, in a confined area or amongst buildings it sounds like a large caliber rifle-not the .22 clap sound. My rifle delivers 90fpe at full power, wih some mods I could get 100fpe but I'll never use that kind of power.. I measured the .22 on the...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

That's some decent shooting Steve, I think we've all hammered a fly on a target at some stage. My rifle gives me sub 1/2" at 55yrds and in perfect sub MOA at 110yrds but the problem is we very rarely get perfect conditions outdoors at long range. These groups were done at 55yrds.

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Thanx for the welcome Steve. The Fx Royal is another brilliant airrifle for long range shooting. I've spent a lot of time working on getting a hit with the first shot at any distance, mainly for starling and crow eradication. I have a click chart that marks my distances on the aplicable...

    Hello from South Africa

S400 silouette 100m - YouTube This was a Air Arms s400 (12fpe FT rifle I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post hunting vids but I have some vids on Youtube taking starlings at long range.

    Hello from South Africa

Thanx Redmanss, I've found the thread-very interesting. Graham, long range with an 18gr pellet at 930fps is around 180yrds+. If you consider that a 9mm empty case at 33m represents a fig.11 target at 1336yrds. Multiply that by 3 (taking 9mm cases at 110yrds) its simlar to shooting at the...

    Hello from South Africa

Hi guys, I've been browsing the forum for some time-love reading through the posts. I used to be a very dedicated long range marksman many years ago then went over to bowhunting and now I'm into long range airrifles-extremely challenging at times. I'm not married so I spend all my free time...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Hi guys, I'm new to your forum-not sure where introduce myself so I'll do it here if that's ok. I used to do a lot of long range CF many years ago and then stopped and went over to archery for about 19yrs. I've stopped that and gone over to airrifles and been at it for 4 yrs. I only do long...
