Down sizing to 1 caliber opinions welcome

I would keep the 243 for the hogs but the others could be dispatched easily with either a 17hmr or 22wmr. Personally I'd go 22wmr as its a good calibre and you can pick up rounds more easily and cheaply than a 17hmr. - boingk

Which way to go...10/22 or CZ bolt?

Get a 452 Deluxe and don't look back. Amazing rifles and great teaching tools - I wouldn't teach with a semi auto, personally. Shots count and having to cycle a bolt makes some significance to the fact of loosing a round. A CZ with factory barrel will definitely hold .5" groups at 50yd, and...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Check out tedsholdover on YouTube. He does a good review of a lot of air rifles, and the new FX Bullpups as well - he says he actually got a prototype for testing and contributed to its released stock design. - boingk

    22lr ammo

Hitting home (Australia) here now, tried to get some .22WMR at the local and they didn't have any. At all. Plenty of .22LR but no WMR... damn! - boingk

    17 WSM anybody tried it?

If this graph is anything to go by then it looks like a hellava cartridge for sure... but then again, it is indeed stepping into .223 territory. http://www.shootingtimes.com/files/2013/04/17-Winchester-Super-Magnum_003.jpg - boingk

Mossberg 740T 'New Haven' in .22WMR

Thanks for the info and compliments guys, and yes I know she was made somewhere between the 60's and early 80's but have no idea where in that spread. The serial number is an earlier (1295102) one so maybe the 60's or earlier 70's. The plans are to keep her pretty much as is... perhaps a...

Mossberg 740T 'New Haven' in .22WMR

Latest acquisition, a Mossberg 740T 'New Haven' in .22WMR. Topped with a Nikko-Sterling 4-12x40 scope then did a few three shot groups at 25m to get the sighting lined up: Then took it back to 50m and did a quick 5 shot group before I had to head off to work: Didn't...

    What suppressor for a .22??

Best I've seen have been non commercial - about 1 1/8" diameter and 4 1/2 to 5" long. Simple tube with threading extension on bottom and inside perforated passage with washers, kept in place with screwtop on forend. Looked to be machined from bar stock. Very effective, increased accuracy (saw it...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Thanks woogie_man. The NS Mountmaster is designed for '22LR and air rifles' according to the NS website and is one of the reasons I bought one - that and its got positive review from people using them on them. As far as I can tell the Crosman Premier and JSB Jumbo Heavies seem to give...

Are Air rifles the pacifier or alternative to ammo availability & cost?

Interesting thread and got me hooked on watching videos on YouTube of pest control, haha. I've always thought air rifles were pretty cool and would be a great tool to have. The low cost and wide availability of pellets is also a huge plus. The sort of thing I'd be using it for would be target...

    Remington 700- AIRSOFT

You could also check out the Stoeger X10, I've done some searching and they seem to be the best performing air rifle under $200. They look and feel good, too, especially the wooden stocked one. Big plus is that its got an auto safety that enagages every time you cock it so it'd be a good one...

Rifle Scopes The truth about Leupold thread

Numerous Leupolds here from VX-1 to VX-3 on everything from .22LR upward, including rifles used professionally for food grade game culling. None have any faults and all work flawlessly. There will always be people who are unsatisfied with aspects of a product be it fault from factory, longevity...

    .22lr vs .22 mag

.22WMR, or .22 magnum, is a good intermediate calibre. It is efficient, relatively powerful and fairly accurate. Not inherently accurate but tends to be more usefully so then a .22LR. I say 'more usefully so' because its range is also increased, as is the stopping power. I would not shoot a...

With the most accurate rimfire rifles ever???

Top stuff mate, and yes I think the CZ rifles are some of the best out there as well. I don't own one myself (yet!) but my brother is a professional game harvester /pest shooter and has a very nice 452 rig topped with a Leupold VX-1. He glassbeds the action and floats the barrel, that's about...

Warning- Anschutz 54 rifles not safe to dry fire

With rounds costing a few cents each why not just head to the range and practise? I never have and never will dry fire a rimfire rifle because of their design. I will still not dry fire a centrefire rifle out of habit, also I still see no need to. If you need to release the firing pin prior to...
