Thanks to all for the advice. I am putting my $$ in a 5-hour private instruction class with a local instructor. I was going to get a bipod, but I have a ruck and other things I can use for stability when I am prone, and I think I need to work on "me" before I work on the rifle.

I have a Rem 700 SPS tac, and as I am a novice precision bolt shooter, I am happy with what it can do (though far less happy about what I can do with it). I have a tad bit of money I can add to it, not sure what to do. It has stock trigger/threaded barrel, EGW base, Burrix XTR rings, SS 10x...

I know the Remington 7400 does not have a good rep. That said, one built by Accuracy Systems, is it any "better" or worth the purchase?

I am by no means a SME, and I am still in the early stages of crawling in the crawl-walk-run method of progression. I used the intro rifle package over at sniper central as a guide. For me it is recreational, I do not compete, and I am not a sniper, so I am happy with what I have...for now...

Update: ordered the Bushnell 10x mil-dot scope today; got it for a song. Next up: new trigger. I think I am on my way. Thanks to all for the replies.

Maybe 1.5" at 100 yards, a bit over 2" at 200 yards. Incidently the scope I am looking at is the Bushnell Elite 10x.

For what I shoot now, the scope isn't THAT bad. I read you, though, and do plan on some training.

The Rem is on a B&C M40 stock, so I am good there. The scope is a cheap BSA mil dot that was given to me. So there.

Thanks for the opinion. I will save myself the embarrassment of telling you what scope...suffice it to say, once I leave 200 yards I will need a new one.

I know the stock on Rem is often lacking (when not the HS Precision, etc). The Savage is a regular stock, not an "accustock" (for whatever that means). Are there any issues with the regular stock?

I have an opportunity to get a Savage 10P-SR at a ridiculous price. I know Remington OK, I know nothing about Savage. What's the downside of this rifle? Stock may need replacing? I would use it for precision shooting out to 500-750 yards.
