Let me recommend the Salmon River Solutions ARCA/Pic rail. I bought a PH2 in 6.5 PRC this fall and wanted a Pic rail for my good bipods but also the ability to use an ARCA clamp on my tripod. The front mounting screw replaces the sling swivel stud. Just in front of the QD socket for sling...
Thank you. I received my V3/419 set today. Everything is sized perfectly. This is an elegant solution to the one remaining gripe I had with my AT/Ingenuity Precision system. Although I could run H4350 with rarely ever getting a stray kernel, StaBall HD was not nearly so well behaved. This...
Improved precision of measurement is often a good thing but we can end up pursuing inconsequential increments. I'd posted here in the past about scale precision with strain gauge and magnetic force restoration devices (search "Adventures in Metrology"). The A&D unit is excellent and when I test...
Just came up from loading in the bunker. I'm using a V3 Autotrickler with the A&D scale and Ingenuity Precision trickler, and am utterly pleased. The units sit on a flat sheet of glass (old Photo frame) and are quite stable. The A&D scale reads very quickly and doesn't drift. Getting the IP...
It depends. Some bullets handle the transsonic region gracefully and some bullet will upset and become unpredictable. Even the rifling itself and bullet engraving can affect this transition.
Carl Zant at Precision Rifle Blog already answered your hit percentage question: https://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/04/15/how-much-does-group-size-matter/ Interestingly, Brian Litz has written some excellent material on how statistical analysis and sample size applies to shooting and load...
Could be. Walk me through it. Let's say a shooter has a ten-shot group 1/2" in spread. The second ten-shot group is also 1/2" in spread, but is offset 1/2" to the right (if the targets were superimposed). Would this be "scored" as a 1.5" group in total (as if the groups were superimposed), or...
I'm not trying to be tendentious, but for statistical analysis you have to be precise in defining what and how you are measuring. But taking the average of five 10-round groups will discard the "outliers" and not provide the detail/accuracy of a true 50-round group. It "trims off the tail" of...
I've followed precision shooting for years, but I've missed where 50-round groups are shot for record in benchrest or F-class. Might you point me to this data? I'm sure impressive 5 or 10-round groups have been recorded, but not the statistically far more representative 50-round groups.
Superb presentation--many thanks. One can develop an accurate load in a quality rifle without any understanding of statistical analysis. But statistical analysis can both make the process more efficient and prevent misconceptions about the potential future accuracy of a load. With chronographs...
Doesn't make sense, but that's what I was getting. Is this a new thing? Or has it been doing this for 25-30 years? lol Every time I thought I was being precise and trickling to a number, I was actually making it worse? And any time I thought I was being lazy and saying "ah.. close enough", I was...
My pleasure. I have no personal experience with the RCBS Match Master Powder Dispenser. I did look at their web page: https://www.rcbs.com/priming-and-powder-charging/electronic/electronic/matchmaster-powder-dispenser/16-98941.html With the "load cell" description, their history, and the...
My pleasure. FWIW, I reached out to Creedmoor about the variation on my TRX-925. They promptly replied that it was outside specs and offered to exchange it. The replacement does work better with less drift, but still isn't as accurate as the A&D MFR scale. However, Creedmoor has that scale on...
Not much different than you'd do with your bolt rifles, but a few considerations. Powder selection is more limited due to the Garand being a gas gun. IMR 4064 or H4895 are good, traditional choices. I had a pile of factory second Sierra 175gr BTHP bullets, but 168 or 155 would be fine. I try...
I was fortunate to take the CMP Advanced Garand Maintenance clinic where one builds a Garand "Special". It shoots well. Attached are two photos. One is from the CMP Talladega range using their ultrasonic target system and my Danish surplus ammo. The second is a 16-round group with handloads. I...
Good point and I think you're partially correct. Reloading manuals should really start off with a basic primer on statistical analysis. If you actually want to "know" your expected MOA group size, muzzle velocity and SD, and the like, you need to measure about 25-30 rounds. Doing load workups...
Amen. I've had mine for a couple years and appreciate the Aztec mode for analyzing brass. I've had a few questionable cases where I could sacrifice them and analyze multiple cases of the same lot, and the Aztec code was always +/1 one unit. Just be careful when inserting and removing the case to...
Much of this depends on the terrain and vegetation. I've hunted the Zim lowveldt four times and will return next August. My .375 H&H wears a Leupold VX6 2-12x with their Firedot reticle. That model is discontinued and replaced by their VX6HD 2-12. These have excellent eye relief (helpful on a...
