    LRF's....what's next?

I called and spoke with Vectronix a month or so ago. I was told that they lost alot of money trying to get into the civilian market and they were dumping their "cheaper" lines like the terrapins and PLFR10 and 15 with no intentions on replacing them. Basically what was happening was the lower...

Any love for the 7mm Rem Mag?

The 7mm mag is almost the perfect all around hunting cartridge imo. To me the only things I dont like are the belt and short neck. The 7LRM solves that. 7LRM- no belt, long neck, 180s at 3100ish, factory brass and dies, feeds in a long action with the bullets seated long.

New product reveal pending, are you in?

No I'm not getting in on it. I am sure what ever it is it will be worth the price. Just surprised so many will put up money for something they may not even want. I have and Atlas and like it.

New product reveal pending, are you in?

So let me get this straight. Theres a new product coming, but we can't be told what it is. Over 200 guys are paying $115 for one. Thats over $23K. Hmmm, I guess the economy has rebounded.

Member Link Up shooting at manatee gun range, Florida

Guys, they shoot a match almost every Saturday morning. They have 600 yd Benchrest, 1000 Yd Benchrest, 600 Yd gongs, and 1000 Yd gong matches. Give them a call and ask for the schedule. I know the match director is working on a new website with current match dates and results. Get out...

    Mirage and Long range shooting

Mirage will lift the image of the target in the direction the wind is going. It should make you miss high and in the direction the wind is heading. Do not turn your scope down, learn to use mirage, it is wind in real time. Learn to read it. It s your best tool in the field to tell what the...

    load testing?

I would be interested in some chrono readings from those first shots. As I'm sure you have noticed during load development, groups print in different locations on target. At 100 yard velocity change does not cause this, it is caused by the harmonics of the barrel and where the muzzle is...

Accuracy opening up after 15 rounds

Warm to the touch in 0 degree weather is a 60-70 degree temp change. So it is getting alot warmer than you think. If you let the case sit in the chamber and get warm before the shot you could be talking 50 fps or more with a 60 degree change in temps. I shoot rl15 in my dasher and go up or...

    Looking for a shooting mat

I'd get a cheap Midway one so you can cut a hole in it for your rear bag so it doesnt have to wobble around on top of a foam mat. All the mat does is keep you clean and comfortable. If you would rather get a better one, look at Creedmoor sports, they are designed for high power. "Tactical"...

Barrels: Good vs. Good but not quite as good

All of the top barrel manufacturers make excellent barrels, look at the 600 and 1000 yard Benchrest results. No one dominates. Mostly you see Kreiger, Brux and Bartlien. I have used all of those as well as Broughton. They all can make a bad one as well, that is where customer service is...

$5k for a new bolt gun

I own a Surgeon built rifle (remedy). They are NOT any better than what a good smith will turn out. IMO a good smith will do a little better job on the details.

$5k for a new bolt gun

You can build one for far less than 5k. Get a good gunsmith you trust, Gradous, Dana English, exc. and give them a call. I have a few customs, and some remingtons, the barrel is what will make the gun shoot not the action. Why the .308? Other than being common and available I can't think of...

Need a new pair of boots.

All I wear is wool. They really don't breathe. What I have done is not put them on until your in the field, but you will still be wet and cold. Wool is only an ok wicking material. If your really sweating poly dries much quicker. Not knocking them, they are the best summer boots I have...

Need a new pair of boots.

Lowas are tough, may be not the lightest. Stay away from goretex, unless you think you really need it. Your feet will sweat and they won't breathe and you'll be wet and cold. Love my Lowa's wish they weren't goretex. I can't wear them in cool weather at all, feet sweat, get wet, and freeze...

    Bore guide for Surgeon Action

The Lucas bore guides are the way to go, they have an insert that fits tightly around the rod and then into the bore guide so the rod is centered in the bore. The Standard Sinclair is not much better than not using one as the rod still rubs the rifling. Sinclair now makes one like the Lucas...

    Recommend a 1-3 day pack

Please make sure the pack fits you properly. There is a lot of info out there on fitting a backpack, google. I see a lot of guys with the hip straps up too high around the waist. They are designed to fit around your hip bones so they can transfer the weight to your hips and off your...
