    What's the Go-To 223 Brass Now?

    IME, with good match prep and annealing, LC, PMC & Winchester are all GTG. LC and PMC are basically interchangable. Winchester does really well, but may need a slight tweak to the powder charge that LC & PMC prefer.

    I'm sending 77 TMK's out of a 20" Bartlein AR at 2830 fps with N540 and SD's around 9 (LC brass) with almost no pressure signs... N540 can get easily get higher velocities than Varget across the board. It can also push 69 TMK's over 3000 fps with no pressure signs in the same rifle.

    LOL.... so I wound up getting 3 jugs (24 lbs) of N540 over the winter and spring (great sales) because I was sure it was going to work.... Yesterday, I bought 16 lbs of XBR8208 because I found it in stock.... I have powder hoarding problems.

    I wound up finding a pretty hot load with N540, LC brass and Rem 7.5 primers that shoots pretty well. I've got to shoot it a couple more times and in a couple of my other rifles before I declare it the "winner" of this quest. Velocity is 2830 fps out of my 20" Bartlein barrel with light pressure...

    Hornady seating stem for 73 Gr ELDM

    I use a Redding seating die with their VLD seating plug for the 73 ELD, never left a mark on one. It WOULD leave seating rings on 77 TMK's though, so I wound up lapping that plug to the 77 TMK and the issue went away. It would probably still seat the 73 ELD without an issue. I mainly load 77...

    Thanks for the info! The only "hot" loads I've found for mine are XBR and the 77 TMK (2750 fps). I'm also close on one using N540 and the 77 TMK (2830 fps). -ZA
