    308 -Varget Load Testing

Need a little help deciphering the target. Not sure which load would be best. This is a 308 Win. Rem 700. I may try and re-shoot 10-12. I was starting to feel the recoil. Don't think it mattered since i focused on trigger break and breathing, but...

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

Several ways you can do it. In my opinion, it varies with the amount of bullets you plan to shoot. Driving down after every shot is one way. Coloring bullets another way. I do it on a home made Shoot N See target and match the shots on my data book. 90% of the time i can see my shots with...

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

PBWalsh, I have used all 3 processes... Ladder, OCW and Chrono. OCW - Pro: Lot's of data. Con: Lot's of ammo to shoot (hot day=Long wait times) Chrono: Pro: Hard numbers to look at. Cons: Sometimes not easy to decipher Ladder: Quick, Not much ammo used, Simple to interpret Con: No extra...

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

Agreed, I will know more on the next test with a chronograph. Side note: I saw a thread about a contraption that allows us, Magneto Speed users, to use the chrono without it having to be attached to the barrel... Promising. Got supplies ordered and will be putting it together soon. This...

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

I may try this. The rifle pressures out at 46. This test was shot at 41*F. Not sure how much seating depth will change since the throat in this barrel is a country mile long. If memory serves me right, the BTHP’s jump 136 thou....

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

The BTHP is running 2620 FPS, Lapua brass, 43.9 gr Varget and a 20” factory tube.

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

Did not check the velocity. I will next time out . Didn’t want the magneto speed to throw off the harmonics. I was also leaning somewhere around 44.8. It’s for a hunting bullet (nosler 168 BT Hunting). Weird thing is, that’s almost a whole grain over what my 168 BTHP uses. 43.9 grn... 43.6...

308 Ladder Test. What would you pick?

What load would you guys pick? This was a 308 168 gr Nosler, Varget shot at 350 yards.

    Which way from here

The center of 24.4 and 24.6 is pretty close together. I would try to tune with seating depth and see if you can tighten that up.

    Puzzling CBTO Measurement

Well, picture 1 lines were made by the comparator. However, picture 2 lines were indeed made by the lands.

    Sit or Stand when reloading?

I stand for reloading. A high bar stool keeps me a the height I want. Albeit, for precision powder throwing, I sit. Bench top is 34”.

    Puzzling CBTO Measurement

Agreed. Had a brain fart moment. I ended up making a dummy round to 2.806 AOL. Chambered it and it had distinct land marks. Called hornady since their book shows 2.810 AOL for ELD-M and without me saying anything else, he asked if it was a Ruger American. Indeed it is. He said they have seen a...

    Puzzling CBTO Measurement

Well, I was under the impression that the ogive line would be the same across bullets, however the AOL and bullet length itself would vary.

    Puzzling CBTO Measurement

So I put the modified case in the hornady gauge put a 140 SST bullet and measured 2.194 toM ax CBTO. Then put a 140 ELD-M and got 2.069 Max CBTO. Pictures say a thousand words, so... shouldn’t those who lines be even?

    Anti Cant device for SPR

Yeah, Point taken... Makes sense... I got wrapped up in the LR mindset... I have other options for LR Precision... And you are correct, seeing the bullet trail and/or impact does tell you a lot about the A to B track...

    Anti Cant device for SPR

I went with a Lone Star Precision Tube mount. I prefer the tube mount to rails or caps since it can be leveled to cross hairs regardless of rifle natural Cant.

    Anti Cant device for SPR

I can see how 3-15 would definitely benefit from it. I ended up ordering one for the 1-6. It will be there if I needed for the longer shots. They are not that heavy anyways... ha
