    Berger's VLD load testing

I have bean so lucky with VLDs I never actually made it that far in the test. Have set out to do it a couple times but I end up working them up to pressure .010 off the lands and finding a load that shoots beyond expectations in the process. The last two I worked up: I did not even plan to try...

Anyone push the 338 a-max with h1000 in an edge or lapua?

I have a few 338 edge rifles and a couple boxes of 285 A-max to test. I see some old threads using re-33 but no mention of results with h1000 or retumbo compared to the 300smk or 300otm. Anyone done this and care to share what they found?

Rifle Scopes Sub $350 scope 1in tube help.

Under $350 with a mil-dot and a 1" tube would probably lead me to a bushnell elite 5-15x40 or a nikon buckmaster 6-18x40. Just not allot of solid options out there in the 1" higher magnifications.

    Rifle Scopes Scopes Slipping

Agreed that if you have a serious defect of machining it is usually best to consult a professional. However, everything I have ever done for the first time was something I had never done before and rarely did I really know wtf I was doing the first time. . If you have the interest and judgment...

    Rifle Scopes Scopes Slipping

I am totally guilty of "playing gunsmith in my garage". That's why I laugh when someone suggests a "competent gunsmith" to mount a scope. A professional sock installer may do a better job of putting mine on every morning but for something so self explanatory and simple, I think I'll manage...

    Rifle Scopes Scopes Slipping

First, if your 338 edge kicks as hard as a wsm tikka.........get a better brake. I have a wsm tikka and three 338 edge rifles ranging from 13-16lb waring Ross brakes and none of them have FELT recoil even worth mentioning.........................however, Having bean in your shoes: Burris with...

Rifle Scopes Is Glass quality Bullsh*t? Or is it me?

A: yes my eyes are not perfect and I were glasses to correct but some scopes are just picky as hell and some are not. My cheap little sweet 17 bsa was totally hazed "bad" when facing in to the sun, my equally cheap nikon was not. My vortex has extremely picky eye relief, My big bushnell is very...

Rifle Scopes Is Glass quality Bullsh*t? Or is it me?

I can NOT see clearly or easily threw a $100 bsa or $200 leupold rifleman. I can see clearly and easily threw a $200 nikon prostaff or a $300 SS. I can see even better threw a $500 nikon monarch and a little better than a $700 vortex. Way better yet from a bushnell elite..........beyond...

    Bushnell Elite 1500 Range finder?

I have an old 1500..........It will ping anything out to about 800, 1050 with a steady rest and a couple tries. Beyond that......useless, first year I had it I got hits out to 1300. However for about the same money there new 1300 G-force (I have two) hits everything out to 1050 instantly and on...

    Savage or not to Savage?

I also run a tikka t3 (300wsm) and they are the nicest production action to run, very smooth, very fast, great trigger. after market parts are available but limited so make a plan or plan to take it as is before going that rout but they are great rifles and very accurate. I do allot more savage...

    Savage or not to Savage?

Sights are held on by two little screws and can be done away with in no time at all. I have used the choate "tactical" on my last few builds and use it almost exclusively now but all the usual suspects apply. Chassis from xlr or mdt, stocks from manners or mcmillian on down threw hs precision...

Help me decide which 6.5 to build? Let me hear your opinion please.

I have bean torn over the 6.5mm for months, I figure....... Short action: creedmoor, so I am not fighting mag length. Long action gets more complicated, 6.5x284-6.5x55-260.............leaning toward the sweed myself ......cheepest lapua brass.....but a guy could go crazy trying to weigh the pros...

    Savage or not to Savage?

I would second the hog hunter suggestion. Top bolt release version has great aftermarket support. My hog hunters are in the magnum and still do .4 moa with target loads. Comes in a cheap stock (functional but cheap)........in that price range you can afford to swap it to whatever you want. . If...

Rifle Scopes Burris Signature Zee Rings OK on a bolt 300 Blackout?

I would be comfortable at the range with that set up but probably still would not. Never recommend them for serious work, ANY kind of serious. I have completely lost faith in them. Chased one too many wandering zeros and waisted to much time and ammo to ever toy with them again.

Rifle Scopes Mil-dot Side Focus Under $600

+1............was going to say exactly the same thing. If you get an older model (4200) you'll need a canted base as they have a limited adjustment but for that kind of money there are none better.
  17. D

Rifle Scopes 20 MOA base with 50 MOA scope

Can not and will not say it is proper or ideal but...........my 4200 bushnell elites have 44.25 moa of elevation. When I am done mounting them they have 4.25 down and 40 up. Not ideal but running hard a couple/few years that way with no trouble at all. Your results could very.

    barrel life and heavy bullets

If I understand it correctly "IF" =the heavier bullet should increase dwell time before leaving the cartridge therefor exposing the throat later in the combustion process and therefor reduce heat exposure leading to better barrel life. Then again: barrels are consumables and magnums are like...

    savage switch barrel

I have two 338 edge "small" shank savages in service and another one under construction. Have well over a 1K threw the first one................ whoever tells you you need a large shank for the edge is simply mistaken. Whoever tells you a standard 110 savage isn't strong enough for a 338 edge is...

    Rifle Scopes Bushnell warranty nonsense

My bushnell 10x runs great and has held up way beyond expectations.......Sorry to hear you had trouble with yours. Mine ran so well It turned me on to the 4200 6-24x50. After getting a couple good ones, I bought a used one of ebay that did not track properly, sent it in.........."bought...
