    Jim the Plumber

I know a lot of you read Jim's posts over the years. Many of you may have met him at matches, including the Plumber's Cup that he ran for about 13 years. He's gone. He had a heart attack December 23 2017. There will be a memorial match and service the weekend of March 24-25. Sign up on...

Hunting & Fishing 12ga vs 20ga on pheasant and chukar

Mrs1911fan thinks I should get a Silver Pigeon to replace my beloved Citori Gran Lightning. I've carried that gun since about 1992 and it's killed a lot of birds. Fits me well. But it is heavy. I made the mistake of borrowing a friend's Silver Pigeon for a couple weeks. Wow. Everything...

Do not buy or trust a lifeproof case!!!!!!

I've had a LifeProof case for my Iphone 5S for about a year. It's advertised as waterproof to two meters, and today it was put to the test when we took the canoe out. I waded into the water to get to the stern of the canoe. I had the phone with me to take pictures of our outing. THE...

    School me on folding stocks.

I'm running a 700 in .308 with a 26" barrel and a YHM 7.62 can on it. Makes for a long weapon. I carry it in an Eberlestock X3 Lo Drag, and the muzzle is and easy foot or more over my head. At muzzle-down ranges the stock sticks up as well. I'm looking to shorten it for easier packing...

    Today's xkcd: Frequency

For those of you who haven't heard of it, xkcd posts a new cartoon/image/factoid every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Today's is interesting, though it takes a while to load. Thought I'd spread it around. http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/frequency.png 1911fan

Rifle Scopes Vortex Razor HD New MOA Reticle Available

Just got the chance to look at the new EBR 2B reticle available in the Razor HD. I like it a lot- it's got a clear spot in the very center, so the reticle does not obscure the X-ring for F-Class shooting, and they've also added a "Christmas tree" below the center of the scope. I want one...

Any Chrysler/Diesel Techs looking for work?

Mods, feel free to nuke this, but I thought it was worth seeing if any Hiders are interested. We could really use more techs, and aren't finding them through 'normal' channels. I work for a Chrysler dealer in the Pacific Northwest, and we need another certified tech. Maybe a couple-three, but...

ID this old motorcycle tank: Early 1900s?

So, long story and long shot on the Hide, but I know there are a bunch of motorcycle people on the board. Help me ID this old fuel tank. Any ideas? 1911fan

Shout out to Iron Ridge Guns!

At the 2011 Oregon Sniper Challenge, I picked up a certificate for Teflon coating of any firearm from Iron Ridge Guns. Knew which one I wanted to coat. Well, time goes on, I misplaced the certificate, and didn't find it until a few days before it expired. Which was an amazing two years after...

Hunting & Fishing Fiancee gets her first rockchuck!

We had a little time Sunday afternoon, saw two and set up.... Few minutes later, she sees one pop back out, and says "Gimme a bullet! Hurry up!" since we hadn't loaded the rifle, lol. One shot, right in the pocket, at about 125 yards with the .22-250AI. She's hooked, had to go see the gore...

Hunting & Fishing Shooting baboons with subsonic .308?

Anybody done this? Seems like you might be able to get a few if you're quiet about it. I might get a chance to try it. 1911fan

Gunsmithing Missing a 1911 pin- Got one to spare?

Somehow, in the process of upgrading a 1911, I've lost one of the two main pins that go through the frame and hold the grip safety in. Looking online, it's going to cost me more for shipping than the pin. Got one you want to sell me? 1911fan

Maggie’s I really should not have said that....

Driving up to go hike out a ridge and look for deer, we passed a spot a coworker had told here was a good place. "Just hike down the draw and up the other side..." so she wanted to go there. I've hunted that area, it's steep as hell. I showed her as we drove by, and she said "Oh no way, you'd...

Gunsmithing Palma 95 vs. SAAMI spec for 308/155

New .308 barrel on hand, plan is to run 155 or 155.5 grains for F-class and tacticool matches. Any real advantage to the Palma 95 over the SAAMI? Also, if discussion shows the Palma is the way to go, I need to rent one. Anybody got one? 1911fan

Improving Taurus 922 revolver trigger pull

I've got my eye on one, but double action trigger pull is very heavy and in single action cocking the hammer is a huge pain. Anybody know any tricks/tips on changing this? Nice revolver otherwise. 1911fan

    RE15 and barrel life

So, in the last two weeks two people whose opinions I respect have told me that RE15 eats barrels. This is relevant, as I may have a shot-out barrel in .308 after less than 2500 rounds. I've been using RE15. One of the people that told me this generally knows what he is talking about, and the...

    S&W 422 shoots WAY left...

I like my 422, and it's a great suppressor host, but it hits so far left it's prit'near worthless. I've drifted the rear sight over as far as possible, so now instead of FEET at 25 yards it's about 6". The rear sight is so far over it's hanging off the side of the slide. I commented on this to...
