Shot this guy Tuesday near Terlingua. Quick and dirty he scored 96 1/2". Not a record, but he was a big MF (around 250lbs).

Yeah, I thought that once as well...I have seen gorges, canyons, cliffs, huge mountains and escarpments that you would never imagine in Texas. Oh yeah, they were mostly covered with thorns, sticky things, spiny things, spiders and a crap load of snakes.

BTW for the OP, nice Aoudad...big boy and heavy horned.

I'd like to kill a huge mule deer like you have up there LOL. I don't believe the mule deer in West Texas get as big as they do in your area.

Details, details
Rifle specs, distance, bullet type and performance etc!
</div></div>

Rifle: Gap .260 - Gap 7000 action, 24" Bartlein barrel, McMillan A3-A5 stock w/Badger M5 and Terry Cross cheek piece. Nightforce 3-15 F1.

Distance: About 100 yards. A buddy and I hiked and rode all over the place for several days and only saw 9 Mule deer doe. So Tuesday we throw our shot guns on the 4 wheelers around 11:20 am, to do a little quail hunting. We head up this trail going onto the top of this plateau, and my friend Robert stops in front of me. I ride up beside him and he says, "Aoudad". I look up on the highest ridge on the plateau and say, "Where?". He says, "Right there!". I was looking 500 yards up to the right, and he is right in front of us. I think the temperature dropped about 40 degrees when I spotted him, because I was shaking pretty good. I pulled my rifle off the 4 wheeler and shot him offhand, while he was walking up a little rocky ledge, quartering away. All I can say about it is thanks to my buddy Robert. His rifle went down earlier in the day do to a Nikon scope mount (he has a Nikon scope with a built in laser range finder).

Bullet type/Performance: Berger 140gr Hunting VLD launched at 2780fps. The Aoudad made it about 20 more feet then collapsed after I shot him. Bullet disintegrated in the left shoulder, and did not exit the animal.

I was so hopped up, I hit him with the first shot, and missed with the second shot when he didn't drop right away. I didn't want to miss out on this opportunity. I have only seen 1 other Aoudad in my 5 years hunting out there, and he was on a ridge 500 yards away. By the time I put the range finder down and got the rifle to shoulder, he saw me and went over the back side.

Thank you. I got into a prickly pear the first morning. I picked it out of my elbow for the rest of the trip LOL. I also caught a Terantula for the kids.

Re: 09' Aoudad

The last night my buddy Robert and I went into Terlingua and ate at the Starlight Theater. We see this Diego burger on the menu: 1 lb ground beef, 4 slices of bacon, 3 slices of cheese, 2 fried eggs, grilled onions, jalepeno's, pickles, mustard.

While we were eating this monstrosity, the kitchen door is cracked and we see this cook drinking a 40oz Mickeys. Well lo and behold it is Diego. So we get our picture with the cook our our very tasty indigestion. I think he is George Gardner's long lost brother.

No, I didn't. I usually bring 2, but this year I tried to bring less "stuff". I let him hunt with my rifle for the last day and 1/2. I told him I couldn't afford to shoot anything else.

I called Taxidermists all around on the way back, and it looked like $1,100 for a half body mount was going to be the cheapest price. I called a guy I had do a javelina 3 years ago (did a good job), and he quoted me $600! I dropped it off Thursday on the way home. I was only hesitant to call him because he was slow last time. He said that hes has someone else helping him now and is much more streamlined - we will see.

Re: 09' Aoudad

The 1/2 mount is the way to go on an Aoudad.
I shoulder mounted mine about 17 years ago. Didn't know any better at the time. Not near as nice as yours either.
Shot mine with a spotlight and suppressor. Good memories.

Correct. They are tuff to spot unless you are prety close, or stare at an area for a while. We walked to within about 15 yards of this one and another that was with it. They watched us, standing still as stone, until we got really close - then they walked away.

Heck, that big white ass will give a Mulie away 5 miles out.....

Tasted good. Had the consistency of Calimari - chewy.

Re: 09' Aoudad

Looking at the pick with the doe again, Go to 4 o'clock from the doe, just off the right edge of the cactus patch and there is another deer bedded down facing away. Can't tell if it's a doe or buck though. Can't believe I missed it the first time.

We passed. The friend who spotted it for me said it is really greasy - or at least the one he tried was. One of the other guys in the group took the back straps to try. We tried to lure in a Mountain Lion with the rest, but one didn't loop through while we were out there. We had NV and Thermal on the area where we placed the remains a lot of the night time hours.

A buddy of mine from work got one on a bow hunt in Texas. He had the ranch cook hook him up with a recipe. Some kind of clay pot in the oven that is common over there. Jalepenos, cream cheese, onions, and peppers. Fantastic grub, not greasy at all. He fed us at work for a couple of shifts.

Re: 09' Aoudad

If I have to sight something in Arrowhead, or a buddy's 100 yards range with a bench. Long range - I am a rancher and shoot out on the family land.
