1:10 Twist .308 with 16" barrel optimum projectile ??

Guys,

I have a .308 with a 16 inch barrel. It has a 1:10 twist rate. What would the optimum projectile weight be ?? have tried 165gr SST's with not a great deal of success.

Should I be trying 180's ? or going down to 130's ?

What are you wanting to do with the rifle? It is a bolt, correct?

Hi Robert, yes bolt action steyr ssg69. Hunting mostly.

175s, 178s, 180s, 185s. Sierra matchkings and Gamekings, Berger VLDs, Hunting VLDs and Juggernauts, Hornady Amax would all be good ones to try.

Any idea on how to determine between a PII and a PIV? Has a 16" barrel and tac knob, but not sure if barrel is cut or original length.
