Rifle Scopes $1,300 or below scope question.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

That's one hell of a discount. There's a lot of hype about the new M5 Mark 4's and there should be a couple reviews available soon. I would be slightly hesitant until I see them, as Leupold's been having issues the last few years. Lowlight and CS Tactical said they would be doing the reviews.

I don't know about better, but I'd take a hard look at the Viper PST series. You can read the pros and cons about Leupold all over the Hide, but you'll find few here who fault Vortex.

When I look at what Vortex offers in a 4-16 PST in FFP for under $850, I'm trying to figure out who would seriously consider the Leupold for double (it's less for you due to the discount). But ask yourself, what exactly about that scope makes it worth more?

Yep, Nightforce. Over the past week, there's been more than one Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm up for sale. In fact, if you send Savage110 a PM, I'm sure he'd go ahead and sell it.

I'd rather have a pre-owned Nightforce in good condition than a brand new Leupold but hey, that's just me.

Here's the link, PM the seller if you're seriously interested.

Not sure if you followed his link, but he's looking at the M5(FFP). I've never seen an F1 for less than $1300.

Nowhere in his post did he specifically say that he wants a FFP scope, there is only a link to one. Therefore, it would leave one to question whether a SFP scope was also an option, which is why I made the comment.

However, I am in agreement with you that he should definitely take a look at the Vortex PST lineup if he's in the market for a FFP scope.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

I have a 8.5x25x50 leupold scope and I love it. It's tracked very well on my 338lapua and I believe the glass is very good. I've also got a vortex viper 6x20x44 and it to is a very good scope optically. I've always had an eye for visuals and to me I believe the vortex viper is very close to the same glass visually as my leupold mark4. I've checked it out at night and at both higher magnifications and to my surprise it's very nice. What sucks is that I paid triple the amount for the leupy versus just getting the viper. Kinda the same reason I didn't go with a nightforce because it was another 600 bucks or so at the time. I'm not dogging any other scopes, but hey....that was 600 bucks for something very few people would even notice or care. So I say save the cash and put the money in a viper. Granted if you want more magnification I'd say go with the mark 4, my ar 30 and it hold 1/2 moa or better.

OK. Fair enough. Let's ask the OP.

OP, do you care if it's FFP or SFP?

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

How about the IOR,s Right in the pricerange. I am looking into one now, and have heard that the glass is a little better than Leupolds ??

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

I'm looking forward to one of Lowlight's reviews on the M5. I wanna see one get tannerite'd, thrown, and other stuff he'll come up with.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

I would rather have the FFP. If Im going to shell out over 1k I want to make sure I do as right as I can afford the first time.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

Your best bet is to save a few hundred more and buy something better.

IOR 3.5-18x50 is AWESOME and can be had for around $1800 (check Liberty Optics). The glass is far more than a "little better" and the reticle is by far the best I have used.

Buy once, cry once.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

The Leupold pricing on Promotive.com is definitely inviting. However, I can't bring myself to buy a Mark4 for $1300 when it STILL doesn't have illumination. That's a deal killer for me for a scope that costs that much.

If you can wait another month or two, wait for the Vortex Viper PST. They're already shipping, and you'll start seeing more reviews popping up. In talking to Vortex on the phone, they were insistent that their optics were as good as, and even slightly better than, Leupold Mark4s in several areas. Vortex is serious about becoming a major competitor in the tactical arena, and they're bringing some serious hardware to the party. Plus, you're dealing with a 4x erector, so you have a more desirable magnification range. As stated above, it's hard to beat a 4-16x50 FFP mil/mil illuminated 30mm tube tactical scope that costs $850 and can go toe-to-toe with Leupold.

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

One of my lupey's broke....at the wrong time...shook the rifle and heard the parts inside rattling around....they fixed it for free, then sold it....

only scope I ever had go down....

Re: $1,300 or below scope question.

Had 2 Mark 4s and sold and bought NF. They are clearer than Leupy. I went from 4.5x14x50 and 8.5x25x50 Leupy to 3.5x15x50 and 8x32x56. Went from basically new scopes to used. And wish i would have done it sooner. These are being used on pistols so love the eye relief.
