I want to do some 1000 yard shooting. Will the 155 grainers work well in a 1 in 12 twist barrel??

Yes the 1/12 is a great twist for the 155 most palma guys like the 1:13 but I know quite a few who use the 1:12 and also even a faster rate of 1:10. Get the 155 smk before you move to the lapua to see how they go. Nice hefty load of varget or RL-15 should do the trick.

they will work great in a 12 twist, I shoot 1K regularly with that combo

Thanks for the info everyone. I have a ton of H4895. I was going to use it and work up a load to push them 2900 fps.

There are two different 155 SMKs; the old one {2155} is a short bullet with moderate BC and needs close to 3000 fps to reach 1000 yards, the new on {2156} has a usefully higher BC and needs only 2825 fps to reach 1000 yards.
The old one could be shot as slow as 1:14, the new ones like 1:12.5 and faster.
The Lapua 155 and Bergers {155 VLD, 155 PALMA, and 155.5 fullbore} like 1:12 and faster.

1/12 works fine my AIAW is that twist. IMO forget the old SMK 2155 155. The new 2156 or Lapua 155 work alot better around 2950 fps. DTA SRS is 1/11 drives them fine 2956 fps 22" barrel

I shoot a 1/13 twist with the 155 laupas out to 1000 easy. The 1/12 will shoot them great and will allow you to shoot a little heavier bullet.

h4895 and 155.5 bergers work very well with a 1-12" tube. I've shot it in F/Tr for the last 3 seasons, and it simply works.

My SASS build has a 12 twist Krieger sitting on the shelf specifically to run the 2156 SMK, the 2275 SMK. It will of course shoot the 155 Scenar just fine as well. The spare stock of 2155s will go down the tube too with no problems.
I've run all of them through a 23" 11.25 twist bolt rifle with great success to 1000 yards.

1:12" twist should work fine for .308 bullet weights up to 165-168gr, and for 175SMK's nearly everyone who tries them in a 1:12" barrel will be happy.
