Buddy gave me a 10/22 with a heavy barrel that says gun parts corp West Hurley N.Y on the barrel, guessing numrichs barrel? It came with a nice wood stock ,bsa scope was no good so I put a vortex 6x24x50 on it.The trigger was way to heavy so I filed the hammer catch .It's around three pounds now.It groups around 1 1/2 inches at 100 yrds.Anybody have an experience with this barrel. Is there a better barrel I can put on it?Can I get it tighter?

Re: 10/22 barrel

Try lots of ammo, Al LEAST 25-50 rounds of each to make sure the bore has a uniform condition before judging.

If you're still dissatisfied the bargain of the decade is Tony Kidd's bull barrels (coolguyguns.com) Lothar Walther blanks, these compare with Clark and Volquartsen barrels (also LW blanks) costing lots more.

1 1/2" @100yd isn't that bad. Try some RWS Target Rifle, SK Standard Plus, Wolf Match Target, and maybe CCI Green Tag.

1 1/2" @ 100yd with most bulk ammo is a hallucination.

Re: 10/22 barrel

Thanks,I'm trying to push it it out as far as I can,Come the 1st squirrel is open and gonna bring it out to state owned land and play with the turrets and get used to them.I'll have about 300 yrd shots(not that I'll take them but gonna get some data)So should I see about 3 to 4 inch groups at 200 yrds?

Re: 10/22 barrel

You may see larger groups in any but perfect conditions because the bullet has slowed so much the wind effects are huge.

How many shots are in your 1.5" groups? Are they consistently that size?

Re: 10/22 barrel

I've been reading that 1.5" groups at 100 with 22lr is pretty damn good. I've shot 1/2" groups of 10 at 50yds using SK Standard Plus. Then I've shot the same rifle and ammo at 100yds and struggled to maintain 1.5" 10 shot groups at that distance. Constantly adjusting my point of aim to try and correct as much for changing wind conditions. I might be able to get it to shoot way better with more practice, but right now I was pretty happy with even these results.
