I have a Savage 10-FCP-K in 308 that I am setting up.
I have a SS 10x42 scope and now I am looking to purchase a one piece base.
I will primarily be shooting between 100 to 600 yards.
Should I go with a 10 or 20 MOA base?
If I go with the 20 will the SS 10x42 have enough elevation adjustment to shoot a 100 yards or will I be at the limits?
Thanks

Re: 10 or 20 MOA base?

600 yards or less you should be fine with a 10 MOA base. Also depends on your internal MOA, but at 600 or less you should still be fine with 10 MOA. If you plan on taking more shots at 600 yards and up you may want the 20 MOA base.

Re: 10 or 20 MOA base?

If I wanted to shoot my rifle from 100 to 1,000 yards with a Weaver 3-15x50mm scope, will a 20 MOA base work across those distances?

Re: 10 or 20 MOA base?

What caliber of rifle and do you know the advertised elevation adjustment on the scope?

EDIT: If it is the weaver tactical then it should have 100 MOA of adjustment so that should cover the 100-1000 range with a 20 MOA base on most calibers.

It is the Weaver Tactical 3-15x50mm. I will be putting it on a .308. I was planning on sighting it in at 300 once I get to shoot at 1000 and just hold low using the correct mil dot point. Will I still have enough elevation to work with at 100?

Re: 10 or 20 MOA base?

Sliderspal and lima27, both scopes you are using advertise 100 MOA of adjustment, 50 up and 50 down centered from the factory. Mounting using a 20 MOA base will change your scope center to roughly 70 MOA up and 30 MOA down so you should have plenty of adjustment to zero at 100 and dial to 1000 with a .308. I believe the average drop on most .308 loads is 20-30 MOA at 1000 so you will still be in the center of your scope which is just where you want to be.

BigJohn's right, you should both be good with a 20 moa base. Lima, you should have started another thread, this one belonged to someone else.
