$100 reward offered for... Nothing. Read on.

Guys, with all due respect... offering a $100 finders fee is kind of insulting. First, do you think anyone here collecting/shooting at this level is going to drop everything for the equivalent of dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse (even if the peanuts are free... the beer is overpriced!)?

Second... it's insulting because we have a track record here of dropping everyting and following up on interesting requests, quests, windmills-that-need-tilting and black holes... for NOTHING. We do it for each other because we are a community within a community. There is a tremendous knowledge base here in Vintage. And we are pretty darn willing even to help out each other and even (especially) the newbies because if they found this little musty pub within the S.H. Casino, they are generally worthy simply by walking in the door!

But treating us as a bunch of coin-operated mercenaries (well, some here were/are/have been... but that's another story)... A mere $100 is not going to get you your rare scopie-thing or Custer's necktie or a stock with Carlos Hathcock's DNA on it.

Asking nicely will... doubly so, asking nicely after contributing and showing your value to the community. Even more so... if the question is interesting, difficult and that in pursuing it, we end up going down a rabbit-hole of learning something new and interesting. Challenge us... don't try and bribe us!

Just my minor rant for the day...

Cheers,

Sirhr

P.S. For just $500 I'll post naked pictures of myself. For a mere $2500, I won't! We all have a price! I'll set up a Go-Fund Me.

I always took the $100 not as a patronizing offer but rather a sincere request, a statement of desperation. Surely if you were ever to help such a person you could name a worthy cause to get the $100 or simply forgo the $100.

No kidding. Because I don't have anywhere near the disposable income of $2500 to get him to take them down! Think we would have to start up a SH donation fund to shut it down.

You know you don't have to look.....

Just remember your childhood training of averting your eyes from seeing that which is not good for your soul to see and you'll be just fine....

My work here is done!

I can't blame anyone for offering a reward.

I've been frustrated looking for uncommon items myself.

Like a sucker I fell for the reward offer in this post.

I say just have the common decency to actually have a reward that might be earnable.

I can bigtime second this based on pure experience.

If I can ever help a member and have it in means to do so, I just do it. God knows they've done it for me! It's what raises this place above the rest, it's members.

I guess if desperation did hit and as a final option I thought posting a reward would make it happen, I might consider it... But I probably wouldn't expect much if just asking didn't raise up what I was looking for.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies for offering a reward on a lowly scope. Maybe if I get a bit older I'll wise up. But, just for the Halibut, this is the reason I've been searching for that scope for some 10 years.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(My response to the ebay seller as to why this scope was important to me)

That scope is called the "Turretless" scope and only a small number were made just before Swift moved from Boston to San Jose.
My father in law was the head of R&D back then and he was unsure of the acceptance by hunters with those adjusters being hard to get at in the field.
When the move was made, a particular semi loaded with mainly scopes stayed overnight at a truck stop-motel in Denver. The trailer was broken into and most of the scopes were stolen, including the Turretless models.
The decision was made not to proceed with production of that model, so only about 75 ever made it into the market.

He had given me one when Ma and I were married 49 years ago, and for the past 5 years I've posted a finders reward on the net for anyone who could direct me to a Swift Turretless. A guy on Snipers Hide saw your ad and emailed me. You had one of the 75.
We'll be repairing it when my (now very old and long retired) father in law comes up here this June. He says it's also unusual in that the crosshairs are metal, and not the usual web material.

We'll repair it for sure, and, of course, I'm still looking for a 3rd, 4th 5th etc.
Thanks
Pierre St.Marie

I can tell this is a lifelong frustrating issue for you. Thanks for explaining.

FWIW, if I could have helped you, I wouldn't have wanted the $100. I will be happy when you get that extra hard to find item. I just took it as "this is important" to you.

If it makes you feel any better, I spent 45 minutes looking for one of those scopes... Nada! But I am looking!

No reward needed!

Sirhr
