Ok, I have a new rifle, ( not new but, new to me ), used NF kick ass scope and, I have a range report.
I'm an experienced shooter when I was a jr. shooter.... I shot the national match course and, I actually made the president's 100 in 1984 ( when I was 18yrs old ).... well I discovered women and fast cars and alcohol and went off to school and left the sport.
I just picked up two deals ( on this forum ) cactus weapon ( 300wm 700 action LW 26bbl 1:10 shilen trigger at about 8oz ) blah blah blah....
I'd been shooting my old supermatch M1A shooting well ( and under moa ) but, this was a NEW experience.
I have gone to the range twice at 100yds... first time.. I seated into the lands.... shot good groups and, I changed it, shot another set of groups 220 SMK 10 thousenths off the lands at 75.7gr H1000 ( about 2875fps ) ... shooting new win brass that I didn't even sort.
Oh, I thought I was hooked before... we had 19 shooters today at Tiger Vally and we started off at 200 and went to 1000... wind was gusting at 9 to 15 but, the wind started off at 1 o'clock... kept changing....
I used to shoot the national match course as a kid and the AMU even came to our club and gave a week long class when I was a kid..... I still even remember some. LOL
I'm not ( at all ) there yet but, I'm so amped right now, I can't tell you.
shooting human sized, and shaped targets.... 800yd head shots after only printing groups twice..... ( I'm amped and, I remember mirage )
So, I'm sitting there... and, I've got about 5min of wind on the gun... watching the mirage.... waiting for my target to come back up and, wind dies..... mirage is boiling..... then it goes the other direction.. not much..... I see it take 6mins of wind off and shoot again... center mass...
I'm totally new (past 600) and the last time I was competitive was when I was 18yrs old ( I'm 45 now )... what a rush. We used to have to dope the wind in the spotting scopes and shoot irons when I was shooting the match course.
I've had 4hrs sleep... I've had 6 beers and, I'm not sleepy and, I don't even have a pet load for this gun yet. Head shots to 800yds and, center mass body shot at 1000 and changing wind.... I'm not new to the game and, I know how to do it BUT BUT BUT, I have a lot to re-teach myself. ( I learned something today ) I have a lot more to re-teach myself about mirage... and how much to dope it.
Need to print more groups but, the 220s aat 2875 were shooting WELL.
