does anyone know what would be the maximum tilted scope base that would still allow a 100 yard zero,
say a 338 or a fifty with a s&b or nightforce 1.5" above barrel
choice of bases 20,30,40,50 moa
what do you think?

It all depends on what scope you have. The NF 3.5-15x has 110minutes of elevation, so theoretically you can have a 50 minute base. The NF NXS 12-42x has 50 minutes of elevation, so you should be fine with a 20 minute base.

In both instances it should work, but there's a chance it won't. I'd recommend up to a 40 minute base for a scope with 100+minutes of elevation, up to a 30 for 80+, and up to a 20 for 50+.
