Suppressors 10mm fans chime in

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I have both Glock 10's. The G29 is completely stock as it's my carry gun, and I carry 175 Silvertip factory in it.

The G20 has a drop in LWD 40 SW barrel for cheap shooting (since 10 brass is just about worth it's weight in silver and I never pick up as many as I shoot).

I also have a 21lb recoil spring from Wolff for it that I run for the super hot 10mm loads. My 155 XTP load runs with 12.5gr of Blue Dot under it, I haven't chrono'd them but it's about as flat shooting as my 4" 357 with 125's and 21.5gr of H110 underneath... so I'm guessing 1450ish.

I really like my 10's, ChadTRG42 loads custom ammo for it, and the stuff is GTG.

From factory Glock pistols I get 2.5" groups on average at 25y, I'm hoping to kill a hog with it in the fall when I get back down to SC to see some friends.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I have a G20 and finally got the call yesterday for the Lone Wolf long slide, black without markings. I will try it with the factory 6" barrel first and see how it shoots.

I am planning on deer hunting with it this fall and I carry it when I am fishing in Alaska. I can hit very well with it, so much so that I stopped packing my Ruger 480 Alaskan.(don't want this to turn into one of those bear gun threads, to each their own)

I like it and have been waiting for this long slide to get in to see what kind of accuracy I can get from it.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

problem with 10mm is finding good FAST ammo...with out blowing yer bank acct. the new G29 with rail is a nice setup.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I'd like to start by saying I am a HUGE 10mm fan. I love the 10mm for it's versatility, and I am a fan of unique calibers. The 10mm can handle any requirements I might have of a handgun here in Texas, and should be perfect over there where you are. If I was up against something larger than a black bear I might want something heavier, but haven't felt the need yet as we don't have anything that big here.

I own a G20SF currently, and have owned a G29 and the SF version. Started with the G29 and sold it due to the expense of ammo, but missed having a 10mm. When I got into reloading I bought the 20SF, and it is my favorite gun. Bought a G29SF as a carry gun for the summer, but the short grip doesn't fit my hand well, as I have wide palms. With Pearce pinky extensions it was plenty controllable and accurate, but I just never liked the way it handled. To each their own. The G20SF has a Wolff 22lb. spring and steel guide rod to handle hot loads, and even with the heavy spring it won't choke with my practice load of a 165 grain Berry's at 1000 FPS (pussycat load). Doesn't matter whether I'm using my LWD barrel or the factory one.

I think the G20 really is the finest of the few 10mm's out there, but I haven't tried them all. My father in law has a Delta Elite and a Smith 1006, and they both shoot well but are heavier and hold just a little more than half the rounds of the Glock.

One other advantage the G20 has is that it's ugly to start with so I don't baby it.

Anyway, if you reload the 10mm is a great round. The most versatile automatic out there. But if you don't reload it's not only expensive, but most factory ammo is not really any heavier than .40 S&W, in which case I'd take the smaller lighter guns available in 40.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

My thinking too about the factory ammo.
I bought 1000 factory loaded rounds back when it was relatively cheap and plan on saving the brass for when I finally start reloading.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

one of my customers bought a EAA Witness Elite Match 10mm. it's very accurate, holds 16 rounds, looks great, stainless frame and blued slide, nice adjustable LPA sights, light rail and feels really good in my hand. it's basically a clone of a CZ75. His out the door cost was $540 if i remember right. the pistol seems to be very well built. i've shot it a few times, will have to get my own soon.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Reload for plinking or hunting. Use the buffalo bore for CC. It seems to shoot well in all these plus my Olympic flattop.

Steppenwolf- I want one of those revolvers BAD! I have an affinity for 10's and for revolvers, having both would be fantastic.

It's not the biggest pistol round that I own since I have a 44 mag, but a 10mm revolver really does it for me. Beautiful pistols you have there

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I'm a fan of 10mm too. I first fell in love with the 10 when I saw my first 'Bren Ten', remember those??

Well.... at the NRA convention and show back in August I saw a copy of the Bren Ten, this one is SUPPOSED to be reliable (I'm told that's what killed the original, reliability, or rather the lack of it! Certainly that's why Don Johnson's character in 'Miami Vice' dropped the gun after the first series or so, and went for the S&W 1006. And yours is lovely Sir <pic above>)

Anyway, I cannot remember who was manufacturing it (Big name AR15 accessory company IMSC). Does anybody have any updates?

Thanks,

Neil

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Doc- ChadTRG42 offers 10mm ammo that's both affordable and HOT.

The Bren Ten is now a CR elligible piece, coming from the fact that so few were made and the large percentage of it's value (a good one is over 4g's) comes from the collectibility of it.

From the reading that I did, the reason that Bren Ten's died is because they were so expensive. It was essentially a custom gun without the added do-dads and/or hand work that make a custom worth the extra coin.

IMO, the nicest thing about the 610 wheelie is that it allows you - if you reload - to tap into the cartridge's virtually-bottomless versatility:

In 10mm autoloaders, you're limited to the max COAL of <span style="font-weight: bold">1.260"</span>, due to chamber dimensions and feed reliablity.

However, with the 610's cylinder chambers (or at least on this 1st Gen model), there's a lot of room for <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">long-loading</span></span> the cartridge, and I'm currently doing some experiments with 200gn Hornady XTPs set at a COAL of <span style="font-weight: bold">1.400."</span> You can throw heavy bullets faster with more powder and less pressure (working recently w/ AA# 7 & AA# 9).

Also, with a 610, you always have the option of having the chambers reamed out to <span style="font-weight: bold">10mm Magnum</span> by someone like Hamilton Bowen, and then you can shoot 10mm mag, 10mm AUTO and .40S&W all from one revolver, ... although those who've done this say that the longer 10mm mag chambering degrades the accuracy of the .40SW due to its having the shortest COAL and, correspondingly, the longest the bullet "jump."

I haven't decided whether, for me, it's worth going the 10mm Magnum route, especially if I can almost get there by long-loading the cartridge. Not in a rush, though.

Yep, Vltor.

It was going to be called the "Fortis," but Vltor was able to secure the rights to call their upgraded, improved version the "Bren Ten" or "Bren 10." All steel with 15+1 capacity.

You can get the mags from Vltor with a "flat" or flush steel floor plate like the original BT mags, or you can use the 15-rd 10mm Witness mags, which some Witness users don't like.

Four Vltor Bren 10 models to be offered:

* a 5" standard model (10mm or 45acp) in 2-tone, or a 5" "Vice" model featuring hard-chrome slide over stainless frame (10mm or 45acp);

* 2 Commander-sized "Special Forces" models (both .45acp only, this year): one "Dark" and one "Light," similar to the Vice model.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Thanks much guys for all the great info, you saved me lots of homework.

A handloader and former 41 mag fan. Done the 44 mag thing long ago, but thinking a 41 and maybe 44 special loaded well are in my 'sweet spot' for power and shooting satisfaction, and as above can do what I need done w/a handgun. If I wanted more I would try a 45 Colt loaded up in a Ruger, but for now, the 10 is on my list of things to try.

Again, thanks much to all for their feedback!

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Love the 10mm!

I've had the Glock 20 and 29 and the S&W 610. The 610 was by far the most accurate, but the 20 and 29 have better capacity and concealability.

I decided that I want to stick with the 1911 style platform, so I'm currently working on getting a 10mm barrel for my STI Eagle. The 10mm round will fit in their standard .40 magazines. This will allow me up to 20 rounds or more of 10mm!

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Thanks for the comments guys! I, too, love the 10mm. I've got a G20SF and G29SF.

I've worked up a great load with the 200 grain Hornady XTP. I was pushing it 1190 fps (avg) out of my bone stock G20 and it shot great at 25 yards and function 100%.
I am also working up a load with the 150 grain Nosler JHP. The first time out, I didn't get the results I had hoped for with the 150 JHP, so I am still working on that bullet. I'm playing with different powders to get good speeds and still feed/eject 100%.
I'll be loading up more of the loads I liked and testing them in my G29 and a Colt Delta Elite 6" to get velocity and group info.
Thanks, again!

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I have always wanted a g20 longslide, 6" barrel with a doctor style sight "melted in" the slide. I think it would make the ultimate backwoods protection or hunting pistol.

I have done initial searches but have not found anyone who makes a longslide for the g20 6" barrels that are out there. Did I read in the above commentary otherwise?

Re: 10mm fans chime in

The Bren 10 is available and is currently running from 1150-1250 depending on model and caliber (offered in .45 and 10) Bass Pro is already taking pre/paid orders and will be receiving them from Sporting LLC in May or June
I never cared for the look of the Bren and I dont care for Glocks. I do own an old Delta and a Fusion LongSlide in 10 and the Fusion is the nicest shooting of all no matter how much gas you run in them. Since I reload I dont pay much attention how much the ammo runs or availability of it but Buffalo Bore and DoubleTap is the shit.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I own a custom 10mm built on an STI frame, I also have a 40 S&W barrel fitted for the frame. I load my own 10mm ammo, since most factory 10mm loads are on par with 40 S&W +P loads. The 10mm is a great cartridge, I shot a whitetail dear about 10 years ago with mine, the deer ran about 100 yards and dropped. My first 10mm was a Colt Delta Elite single stack, nice gun but I wouldn't own a factory gun again. I have also owned a Glock 20 and 29 and the 29 was a pain to shoot, not enough are to grip so the recoil was hard to manage.

Supposedly Lone Wolf Dist. (LWD) was making them. Check with them for availability.

I know LWD offers a 6" match-grade 10mm barrel for the G20, as well as several "caliber conversion" barrels for the 10mm Glocks.

But that can be remedied on the G29 by adding Pearce's "pinky" finger extension bases to the magazines and, in my case, some minimalist reduction work to the frame (along with adding a beavertail and radiusing up under the trigger guard

).

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I'm a 10mm fan, great caliber for many things. I have a stock Colt Delta Elite I picked up a few years ago really cheap, it was damn near new. All in did was add aftermarket grips, a new recoil spring and flat bottom firing pin stop (EGW I think). I did stock quite a bit of ammo from Georgia Arms, most FMJ and Gold Dot HP. They had very reasonable prices at the time, however I know that time has passed. The Double Tap ammo is great, I like the heavy hard cast load. I have everything here to reload for it, just never got around to doing it so I can't help much with data.
There were a few dedicated 10mm forums out there, and one I really liked and had alot of activity I can't seem to find now, I think it was 10mmtalk.com???

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I currently have a pair of S&W 610s, one is a first gen and bone-stock, the other is a later gen.

Unless you've loaded for the revolvers or maybe a Contender, you may not realize how good (and how potent) the 10mm can be.

If you guys love 10mm, then you must check out doubletapammo. They are very well respected within the 10mm guys. I have a G20SF and use the 200gr hard cast ammo for woods and hunting. This hunting season, i shot a 240lb hog at 15yards with one and it was lights out. 200gr flying at 1300ft/sec and 750ft/lbs is smoking fast.

Mike at DT also makes a 135gr load that is flying at 1600ft/sec !

3 years IPSC after buying it from a shooter that went to A class with it.. hit poppers with a resounding CLANG

BarSto barrel Titanium internals full length guide rod dual port comp

and it came with over a dozen mags and 2 .50 cal cans of brass

with really hot ammo the comp works great an No flip. it did have a dot scope on it for awhile (note hole in front of slide stop) and I may put it back on, accuracy with this gun is great I haven't shot any groups with it lately but it always hits what it is aimed at..

I hand load every round for this 10 easy going paper punching to making the gun smoke like a freight train the notebook is thick,...
I have had 135 Noslers chrono out of this gun at 1500+ fps.
200 TC @ 1150 fps.

and the 180 JHPs just loved bowling pins...

I would have to say this is the reliable, accurate,go fast "go to" handgun in the safe

Re: 10mm fans chime in

I've treated my glock 20 like the red headed step child. And it continues to take it. Most might not do this but I run mine at it's breaking point with 12.6 grains of blue dot and 180 gold dots and it shoots 2 inch's at 25 yards. Yes it's ugly but all the more reason not to care when I'm rolling around in the dirt with it on my hip trying to get a better shooting position on a coyote.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Have been a 10mm fan for a long time. It started many years ago with S&W 1006. Nice gun but a little heavy. Traded it for a G20 and a 6" barrel. Then added a G29. I have just started reloading my own ammo. I would love to add a Fusion or NH longlide. Those are both pieces of work. I just recently picked up a Lew Horton 610 and 625 3" models. Will post up some pics when I get them. The 10mm is just plain fun.

Yep, ... and the best part is that even after getting dirty, wet or just generally abused, the G20 still delivers excellent accuracy. It's payload-capacity-to-weight ratio makes it hard to resist taking into the field or boonies.

Re: 10mm fans chime in

Glock 20 for me. Love the round. I stupidly sold the gun years ago when I was just married and poorer and the wife couldn't handle the recoil and got her a 9mm.

Have regretted it ever since.

Looking for another now that I'm not so poor, but one always comes up after another "want to have" shows up

I started with a blued Delta Elite, a Smith 1006, and a Smith 1076. I always carried the delta or the 1076. I've been wanting to build a Para-ordanance P16-10. In due time I suppose.

KentH, I know what you mean brother.

I love the 10mm. Ever since I became a member of this site, I've been buying GAPs but recently have started purchasing handguns again while waiting for a couple of GAPs to finish. I can't wait to post some 10mm pics.
