Had a Hide member ask about a post where I listed results with a G20 with an aftermarket barrel with 200gn Hornady XTPs. So since I took the time to write him back, I thought I would post it here even though this is a precision rifle forum.
OK, here is the set up I used. Don't be a dummy. Use your head and don't try this with a glock barrel as you won't get close with out seeing bad signs of pressure in the form of glocksmiles or a disintegrated weapon.
virgin Starline brass
CCI large pistol magnum primers
IMR 800X powder
Hornady XTP 200gn
Loaded with Lee dies to factory length.
Shot only in the KKM barrel and I highly recommend a 22lb recoil spring as even with that it was sending brass 20 feet to the rear.
Results measured with an Oehler 35P with proof screen on a humid 85 degree day in Texas.
Charge, Avg FPS 5 shots, standard deviation in fps
9.0 grn ,1203fps,30fps
9.2 grn ,1235fps, 39fps
9.3 grn ,1259fps, 24fps
9.4 grn ,1258fps, 13fps
9.5 grn ,1257fps, 19fps
9.6 grn ,1280fps, 19fps
9.7 grn ,1282fps, 18fps
9.8 grn ,1290fps, 25fps
9.9 grn ,1306fps, 16fps
10.0grn ,1315fps, 23fps
The fastest of the bunch was a 1353fps and this was all measured on an Oehler 35p with proof screen. I had no signs of pressure and might have gone a bit higher had I had some additional rounds loaded at 10.1 and 10.2 but once I hit my target of 1300 fps I believed that would be good enough to stop just about any threat, pig, or just about anything else in North America.
Again, I cannot stress enough. Only attempt this if you are an experienced reloader and only with an aftermarket barrel like the KKM. Start low and work up looking for signs of pressure. Need I repeat? Start low and work up looking for signs of pressure. Measure twice, especially at the upper end of the charge range. Do this at your own risk
Cheers,
