I’m trying to decide whether it’s time to start handloading or just stick with the factory FGMM in 260.

What speeds are you guys getting out of the 130 class bullets in 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor out of the longer barrels and slower powders like H1000 or RL26. I’ll be running a 27” 260 and have heard great things about velocities from RL26.

most of what i've seen the RL26 for was heavier bullets like the 147. now RL16/17 with 130 and 140 is fast

friend just loaded by 43.5 H4350 and is getting 2930fps from his stock 6.5CM RPR

I never did any work ups on the 130 grain bullets for 6.5 Creedmoor, but the Prime Ammo loads were running mid 2900s out of a 26” barrel when I tested a few boxes. Seems it would be easy to replicate with RL16 or something slower. Sierra and Berger seem to show that also with the 130 Class projectiles in their data. I have settled on 136 Scenars @ 2,875 FPS out of 26” barrel.

I get 3040m.v. in 28" shilen select match with berger hybrid AR 130gn.
You would not believe what it can do @ 400 yards .

That is good to hear @puppet . I’d be happy if I could get over 3000 FPS with a straight 260 but I really want to push the 130’s in the 3100 FPS range but am thinking I’ll need to go up to a magnum bolt face to do so.

I also run the Berger 130 AR w/H4350 @3000fps out of my 260rem. 26" barrel. The bullets are excellent.

I’ve focused so much more on the actual shooting and training side of things that I’m realizing I don’t know much about optimizing bullet selection.

If you wanted to setup a .260 to run 130 rdf’s or eld-m’s as fast as possible, what would you do as far as reamer choice and powder choice and all that stuff?

I shoot a 6.5 SLR with a 22” tube and with Varget and Peterson SRP brass I am getting 2922 with crazy low sd/es numbers

A reference point for you. My wife shot out a couple of 6.5SLR with Berger 130 vlds. She had 26 inch bbls a used 4831 for a very consistent 2935fps. We shot some at 3K, but the brass life was 1 and done (SLR not 260) and they were not as consistant. I would look at wind effects at 1K between 2940 and 3K before I pushed things really hard.
