Has anyone tried this? I have a spare 5.56 suppressor that I could pin and weld the brake on. Thinking it would be something like a Mk12 clone with a shorter barrel since it wouldn't be a reflex suppressor.

Extrapolation X2
16.5 to 14.5
Bolt gun to gas gun

Gas guns aren’t bolt guns.

2650-2700, from a 14.5” gas gun with 75s is probably a more realistic velocity and will have a fairly impressive ball of flame given that 224 is typically filled with slower burn rate ball powder (factory ammo).
2650-2700 is still pretty impressive from a 14.5” w/75, anything more would be icing on cake.

There is no way it will loose 300fps. Gas guns aren’t 50-100fps slower given the same barrel length.

Not going to knock you for having doubts or questions, but you can probably believe what FCS says.

Just based off my experience with gas guns, the estimated velocity I use to start with and true stays pretty close to 20-25fps loss per inch of barrel length from what the factory ammo states. Sure, some tweaking is done maybe minus another 100fps hasn’t been my experience.

I’ve even verified my shooting data with a magnetospeed and my ballistic calibration was within a few fps of what the chrono said. Not saying it’s not possible, but maybe I’ve just been lucky with faster than average gas gun barrels. I also always shoot suppressed, so there’s a slight boost compared to non.

There are a lot of variables at play so even a fast barrel vs slow barrel of the same length can give you a good bit of variation. Just go for it if it’s something that interests you and report back with your findings!

I've saw it tested that certain ammo in a 11.5 vs 10.5 can be 250fps slower. A lot depends on powder burn rate and barrel length. A lot of barrel length test might show an "ave" of 25-30fps/inch loss, but if they include a graph you will see some calibers loss a little per inch, then slot, then a little. Sorry for the run on, but no length/velocity test is linear from 30 to 16".

Hornady ammo, 88 ELD-M, 2573 average from a 16" barrel. 75 gr bullet should be about 100-125 fps faster.
Drop another 1.5" and I'd expect the 75s from a 14.5" to be right in the 2700 fps window.

Closest real world data I've seen to a 14.5", 224 Valkyrie with heavy bullets.

Maybe Federal 75 is faster than Hornady, maybe you can load something that nets you more velocity.

2700 fps w/sub 0.75 MOA accuracy from a 14.5" bbl, 224 Valkyrie would be darn impressive. I'm certain I could push a 75 faster but accuracy and case life would suffer. I didn't specify the accuracy portion in my earlier posts, my bad.
