The Night Force Competition scope has been out since February but I'm not finding very many reviews. Could I get some input from those of you on the forum with experience with this optic?

Thanks,
Jerry

Check out some of the sites devoted to Benchrest shooting. I doubt you will find many on here whom have experience with the NF Comp 15-55.

Although not a benchrest shooter myself, a few months back I picked one up. I reasoned that I would use the scope occasionally and it may be nice for group shooting and load development. However, I found that I rarely used it as I do not need that kind of magnification. I tested the scope in varying conditions prior to trading it for another Schmidt. The glass in the Competition is (at least to my eyes) far better than any I have ever seen in a NF scope. At one time I had 5 NF NXS's and I've had a couple ATACR's.

In my opinion the NXS is lacking in contrast. However, the ATACR has much better contrast and better glass all the way Rou d than the older NXS. I've heard that the ATACR and the Competition had the same glass and coatings. What I discovered during testing was that the Competiton seemed clearer than the ATACR and had slightly better resolution (both scopes set at 25x). If I were in the market for a high mag BR type scope, I would look no further than the Competition.

I looked through one and compared it to my NXS and a friends 12-50 S&B all on 30x and i must admit that the 15-55 had the edge over mine and the S&B which amazed me and the guy with the S&B , So optically very good .
Only negative , Didn't have the bomb proof feel of an NXS but then its a comp scope and weight must figure in the build .

Thanks for the feedback guys. I talked to Night Force this morning to pick their brain regarding mounting on a Savage action. It was an interesting response. Basically they feel that regardless of what action you are using (with or without a recoil lug on the rail mount) it is a good idea to bed the mount to the receiver - preferably with a heat sensitive (removable) material like JB Weld. The idea being that the bedding material fills in the imperfections on the receiver surface. Have you all done this with your mounts? Do you think its helpful? I admit I'm a fanatic about not cutting corners when it comes to accuracy.

I shoot LR F-class with my 15 x 55 NF comp scope and the one drawback is the sensitive eye relief that is even a pain when shooting off a fixed rest. The eye relief issue would keep me from ever using the scope in a tactical situation where quick shots were required. I have a Premier reticles first gen and two other NF one BR and One NXS 12-42 power scopes.

For 1,000 yard F-class I love being able to resolve the X in the X-ring, now I just need to hit that small thing more often.
